With Wyoming Elk app.due in another month here is my question. At what percentage increase in the odds is the extra $400 for the special draw worth it to you? I drew a limited entry tag in the regular draw and although it was a good hunt in a decent area i am glad i didn't pay the extra money for the special draw.If you look online at Wyoming web site at the odds there is only a small increase between Reg. and special in alot of the areas ( 1-3%).So at what percentage increase is it worth it to you.

the chances for a nonresident to draw are higher than a resident...makes sense..nonresident pays more money. a certain percentage of the tags are aloted for nonresident with less applicants applying. i'm not sure but i think your chances are already pretty high. i dont think the money is worth the percentage increase. if money is not a huge issue than it sure won't hurt any.

I moved away from Wyo about 20 years ago and haven't drawn an elk tag since I left! I've forked over the cash for the special price tag most of these years but the draw gods just haven't been on my side. Hopefully Wyo will start a pref pt system soon for elk, deer, and antelope so at least the guys that continue to apply have a better chance to draw and the guys that have drawn will have to go to the end of the line and start over. I'd have 20 pref pts by now if they had a pref pt system!

The application is due is in January, results out in Feburary, with all the rest of the other states draws to go. No way ever. If it were later, and I had nothing on the plate??????? Plus if you are doing it, you send the message that you want to pay more. It may help draw odds by 2:1 or more in some units, but in others it will not help or may even huts odds slightly.

Thats my point i don't understand.People are paying $400 more with no more chance to draw than the Regular draw. For example area #58 has 1% chance in the Regular draw and 1% in the special draw and people are still applying for the special, don't they look at the odds before applying? There are alot off areas where this same thing is happening. There are areas where the special draw does help. In the Deer and Antelope draw there are some areas where there is a big difference and some of the lesser known Elk areas.
