I am strongly considering putting in for this unit with 7 points. I know there are better units for bigger bulls, but I know this unit better than any. Would love to know what kind of hunt to expect for archery. Is there any bugling during this time of the year? Is opening weekend a good time to hunt, or should a guy wait for the rut to heat up some. I know what kind of bulls to expect, and I have archery hunted deer, but never elk. I know years ago when they posted hunting results for each ltd elk hunts that even the Fish Lake Archery boasted a 100% sucess. What's it like now? Any info would be appreciated.

I think you would be crazy to burn 7 points on a fishlake archery tag. What you can expect is a chit load of general season elk and deer hunters screwing up every thing you do. However if all you after is a 300-310 type bull you should be able to get one killed. I would try a unit that does not have a general season spike/cow elk hunt. JMO.....

My buddy killed a 360 plus bull on the Fish Lake archery hunt this year. It was an absolute monster. His wife called it in to boot! There are plenty of good bulls down there but you would be hunting with all the general season hunters like was mentioned earlier. I know that typically I kill better animals in areas I know well. You can't kill potential. Good luck in whatever unit you draw !

Just a dink 345-350 gross bull. Dont know for sure never bothered to put a tape on him. give me an email address and I will send you a pic of him.

Stick to where you know. Hunt opening weekend, Labor Day Weeked, but save your vacation for the last week of the hunt. Take someone with you to do the calling and then you hunt out ahead of them. You'll get a nice one if you know the area. Good luck.
