I've been doing alot of lion hunting, also late cow tag with my dad.(he's 70 still at it).
I'm not see'en many spikes.Saw six herds this week(Manti unit) ,each over 80+ head.Only 5 spikes total.
Did the over the counter muzzeloaders get them?
Was the regular spike hunt that good?
How did your biddies do on these hunts.
This is not to start a debate about spike hunting being a good or bad thing.Just woundering what your see'en,and harvest info.
NO SPIKES, NO BIG BULLS.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-04 AT 10:31PM (MST)[p]I hunted near Joe's Valley During the muzzle spike. The one heard that I finally was able to get into had about 150 cows, 2 300 inch bulls, and ONE spike! We seen a lot of other elk from a long distance. Not a lot of spikes were killed this year...up there anyway.

I HUNTED THE MANTI DURING THE MUZZLELOADER HUNT ALSO, I SAW 5 SPIKES DURING THE WHOLE HUNT. I SHOT ONE OF THEM THOUGH. I DON'T THINK MANY PEOPLE WERE SUCCESSFUL THIS YEAR FOR SPIKES WITH A MUZZLELOADER. I HEARD ALOT OF PEOPLE SHOT SPIKES DURING THE RIFLE HUNT IN OCTOBER. I HAVE BEEN LION HUNTING ON THE MANTI QUITE A FEW TIMES THIS YEAR AND HAVE ONLY SEEN ONE SPIKE.
I DID SEE ONE HERD OF TWENTY BIG BULLS DURING THE MUZZLELOADER SPIKE HUNT, AND MANY OTHER SMALLER GROUPS.

i hunted lions today on the fishlake. saw 100 head of elk in two herds, no bulls. must be the whole state is lacking spikes this year. not many lions either.
