I am looking for a new Zeiss Conquest scope for a 300 WSM or 300 WBY that I have yet to purchase.

Currently looking at the 3 1/2 x 10 x 44 and the 3 x 9 x 50.
This scope will be used for both deer and elk in all types of terrain and cover.

The first scope is $60 more, but that is not a problem.

Not to interested in the 4 1/2 x 14 scope's as as I am not a fan of the AO's.

What do you think and whay?

Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Jan-11-05 AT 11:35PM (MST)[p]I replaced the scope this past year on my 300 Weatherby with a Zeiss 3x9x42mm. So far I like it and have no complaints.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-12-05 AT 06:54AM (MST)[p] Are you sure about a 3 x 9 x 42? All I was seeing were 3 x 9 x 40's?
Will I be alot better off in light gathering with the 44 and 50 scopes? Do you loose anything with the 44 and 50's vs the 40's?
Thanks

I am a huge Zeiss Conquest fan, but have you considered the Leupold VX III 4.5 x 14 Non AO Scope. I bought the Boone & Crockett edition to put on my 300 Win Mag. I was dissappointed in the high mag Zeiss scopes in that you had to have AO and I was like you in that I am not a fan of them.

The clarity and quality of the scope I think is very comparable to the Zeiss Scopes. I have two Zeiss Scopes - 3x9x40 (had it for three hunting seasons) and a 3.5x10x44 - this past year was my first to have it. The 44mm didn't require me to get larger scope mounts which was nice. My favorite rifle has the 3x9 Zeiss on it, but my .300 I have killed all my best animals has the Leupold on it. I have never used the B&C reticle on game at long distances, only at the shooting range, but it appears to be pretty accurate to 400 yards.

400 yards is a very very long range for me and I would have to be on a solid rest and no wind to shoot that far.
