Hello everyone, was wondering if anyone could tell me a good zone to hunt archery elk.Being a non resident i would like to hunt this fall so would like to put in for a area with high draw success.I think wyoming is so beautiful that i wouldn't have to kill an elk to have a good hunt. I am not looking for 400 bulls but am looking for a unit that has lots of elk and some decent bulls. This would be my first archery elk hunt so would not be excpecting anything more then a good time.I am 23 years old and fearless when it comes to backpacking so rugged or not doesn't matter.Any info would be helpful. Thanks

Muzzy,
if you really want a decent chance of hunting this year, you probably should apply for a special general license, which gives you the best odds of drawing a license. If you draw your general tag, you have the option of hunting many units throughout the state. General units in the western part of state are decent hunting. The snowies and Sierra Madres in SE Wyoming are probably as good or better. The Bighorns have a couple of general units as well.

Most of the high quality units are limited quota, and the odds start getting pretty tough for NR to draw. If you draw, I can give you some more info.

You will absolutely love the Sierra Madres or the Snowies if you like backpacking. You might look at some maps around hunter mountain in the Sierra Madres. Find the town of Encampment and follow the hwy (470?) west. The confluence of Battle Creek and North Fork Battle Creek are right near there. I spent a lot of time doing aquatic invertebrate research around that area. (pick up a mule deer tag too).
