Well any of you Utah elk guru's going to step up and tell me where The biggest bull in utah is at?? With 11 points at stake and Several units producing 400 class bulls. It is near time to make a decision!! I have narrowed it down to a few Public units and a few CWMU's. To include Pilot Mt, Monroe, San Jaun, Pavant, Deep Creek, The odds suck for public units. Even with 11 points.
A few Cwmus on the Manti Fishlake Grouse Creek and San Jaun. All look pretty good with better odds. However most of them are producing 330-350 class. I have talked with many of the the Cwmus. Now i just need to hear it from some one that really knows. Do you? Do you really know and want to be part of a possible monster bull prove it?? I know this sounds a little retarded. But one never knows it might land me the monster of monsters. What one will do. Go to all extreams. Considering all options. Go ahead run your mouth i want to hear a good bugle!!

Fall-2 Issue 2003 Trophy Hunter magazine cover photo of Jeff Diderickson, his state record Utah bull & guide Doyle Moss.
If you are serious about killing the biggest bull in Utah from what I've heard & read, Doyle Moss would be the guy to call.
Best of luck!!!

None of those unit's you've listed have produced any of the recent 400" bulls barring the Pahvant and even then only one that I know of.

The Manti, Beaver and Wasatch Mountains units have been the largest producers of 400" gross bulls I believe.

Additionally your 11 points are next to useless on most of the units for a rifle permit. I think the odds on the Pahvant were 1 in 40 last year IF you had max points.

Might I suggest a muzzleloader or archery permit and more realistic 340 - 360" goals :) :) :)

Cheers,
Pete

Holy crap dude, you ain't askin' much.

I got 12 points and don't have a 400 bull tied up anywhere. I would just make this suggestion. Anyone who tells you they know "right where they are at" is full of it. Like mentioned before, you need some realistic goals. You can find a 400 bull on about any unit would be my guess, but you are going to earn it.

For some reason people draw in Utah and have visions of a 400 bull mounted on their wall. I would bet it takes time, knowing what 400 is, passing on the 390 ones, scouting your guts out, and a little luck. To get a big bull some things have to come together, like getting a tag first. Good luck in getting a big bull on MM.

KTC, your right, a few years ago I drew the Ar301 tag, (that is the archery elk tag for utah, they got rid of it.)
Well anyways me and my hunting buddie scouted, and scouted, for about 3 1/2 months intell we decided on a location and picked out 5 different bulls we wanted to go after, all in the 370-410 range.
We hunted nearly everyday of the hunt, we ended up killing the bull we named Tiny, he scored 381 1/8 net.
Its no big sceret where we were hunting, the Wasatch unit. But the area is pretty remoute.
Just let me know if you draw the wasatch tag, am out watching a bull right now that will gross right around 400.

Rut,

I am no "guru" but I have drawn Pilot Mountain and hunted with my dad when he drew the grouse creek area. However, the actual grouse creek unit is not a CWMU. Although there are some CWMU that surround it.

Personally, I think Pilot Mount is way overated. I could be wrong, but in years past at times it has been difficult. I will be happy to tell you what I know, just send me PM.

Well I'll let you in on an area I know. The last few years I've been down in the dark hole I have came across this huge bull.I
would say he goes 450 or so.The first year I seen him I had him in my scope at about 75 yards as he was munchin' through a meadow. I was meat hunting that year so I passed on him. The next year I had him at 50 yards and just begun to squeeze and I
noticed R4 was broken at the tip. This would hurt the final score so I decided to take him next year. The sheds from this guy are huge. We had to cut a trail into them to drag them out with our 4 wheelers. If you have any interest I'll give you a hand.I don't need that much meat.

No kidding on the max points!! 11 are just the luck of the draw. I am considering the preuiem tag. oh and if i came across wrong hope not. 400 would be great would like 350-370 then 400 would be the frosting on the cake. I have considered the bow. But when I see Mr. Big at 300 yds i won't have an excuse. And I don't pull a bow that well. I would have to take Muzz to help me pull it back!! And yes Muzz get in shape. Cause I know anything over 500 lbs hurts my back.

My thoughts exactly ktc. 4oo would just be a blessing. My luck i will draw a tag on a unit that has 400 bulls and I would only see spikes. Cause when I hunt spikes all i see is big bulls.

Doyle knows for sure. I did talk to him a few months back turned him on to an area for shed hunting!! I might have to hire him.

I don't know a darn thing about them 2 units I do hear there are a couple of keepers on the sw desert. I have this problem with the fact I already know to much about the units I don't know anything about except they all (the units) know someone that killed big bulls on them. And they have lousy odds.

I heard about that bull you are talking about. I heard it a little different. Is that the same bull where the boys from RMEF went with you. And didn't you pass not the bull but pass wind just before you wet. And that kind of threw you off track. I heard he was a keeper for sure. The Manti right?
You can go rim if u behave.

Well rut I might be able to go as long as you want. I am getting a divorce as I was told today after I got home from work. Nice news after a day of doing nothing at work. So I guess i will be one broke bastard now.

Right on. If you end up putting in for and drawing the Manti tag, I may have a few areas for you to check out. I ended up with a 340 bull last year, but the area I hunted had MUCH bigger bulls. I saw at least 3 in the 370-380 range, but they were too far for shots, and ran out of daylight before I got into range.

And yes, I can cook!!
