On Saturday 02/5/05 my father had his 2004 elk officially scored for BC. It grosses 388 5/8 and netted 378 5/8. According to the BC scorer it was the largest typical scoring elk in the state of Utah last year and should place in the top 25 of all time typical elk taken in Utah. Congratulations to my father. And to the so-called guides from the Orangeville area that snubbed the bull by saying it was a nice bull but they were only looking for book bulls and didn't think it would score much over 360 because it had short main beams (both over 54?) TOOOOOOOO BAAAAD! Learn to JUDGE an elk!

P.S. If any body knows how to, or wants to post a picture let me know and I will e-mail you one.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-07-05 AT 12:56PM (MST)[p]Larry ball harvested the new # 2 state record typical elk 2004 and was only 1 inch away from breaking the all time Utah record. I have heard the bull was 407 gross but am not sure of the exact measurements. Mossback guides and outfitters were the guides. Sounds like your father harvested a real nice trophy elk last year just not the largest bull taken in 2004.
If anyone knows the largest net bull taken in 2004 for typical elk post it I would like to know.
Thanks

Lots of rumors, may be true. But the Official B&C scorer, which scored my fathers bull and scores most of Utah's entries as I understand it said it was the largest TYPICAL scoring elk he has measured so far for 2004, he may not have meant gross score but rather net, not sure.I hear lots of rumors of bulls 400 + I know some of these are non-typical. Maybe some of them are not official yet, who knows.

Even if it ends up not being the largest net bull of 2004 it sounds like a very nice trophy elk that I am sure your father is proud of.I was told the bull I am talking about is official and it netted 1 inch under the currant state record for typical.I dont dare to post the net score of this bull because I dont know for sure. Does anyone know the net score of Larry balls bull taken this year with mossback outfitters?

Not sure of Larry's net score, but it was a typical and your right, it did lack one inch of Brian Gilsons #1 Typical Bull, but it still had to go through the drying period. I'll still bet the bull nets over 400 inches.....still though they are right.....the bull your referring to is no small bull either. Give me a shot at a 370 class bull. PLEASE

I'm sorry, but you have to be blind to think that has short beams. LOOK AT THOSE 5ths!!!!!

Tell you Dad congrats on dandy!

Cheers,
Pete

In anyone's book that is a bull of a lifetime! We all get way to caught up in the B&C thing. Everything in life is not always about having the #1 biggest and baddest you name it on the planet. Enjoy it for what it is, one beautiful bull that less than 1% of all elk hunters will ever harvest. That says it all.

elkantlers and Taxidermynut I am not sure of the guides name just know they were from the Orangville, Huntington area because they told me that.

Can you imagine if you were paying these guides and they told you to pass this bull up because he would not make the book. Lets see they were only off by a mere 28 inches. Thats a lot of points for guides to misjudge.

ONE HECK OF A NICE BULL. I THINK ANYBODY WHO WOULD TURN DOWN THAT ELK WAS BLIND. LOOKS LIKE ONE OF THE ELK I HAD TIED UP FOR ME. IF I EVER DRAW OUT I HOPE I GET AN ELK AS NICE AS YOUR DADS. TELL YOUR DAD CONGRATS ON ONE SWEET ELK.
