Again this year I won't be traveling to Wyoming for an elk trip. Have never drawn an limited license in this state and I started applying in 1997. One of these days! Good luck to all.

Time to go to Plan B, Then C, and D.

Shot down in Wyoming....but I only put in for the best tags so I can't cry.

Cheers
Roadtrip

My friend finally drew an out of state tag after putting in for seven years. Good thing I finally was able to convince him to put in for a different area.

I won't be going this year either. I have drawn 1 tag in 10 years for elk in Wyoming. Maybe next year I will get lucky. Good luck to you who drew.

get ir done...

No Wyoming Elk for me either this year. But i can't complain i drew 2 out of the past 4 years.Time to get those Deer apps. in now.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-24-05 AT 05:02PM (MST)[p]Pulled another WY tag this year (reg money). Nothing like hunting elk in Sept with a rifle and a bugle in hand. Still not as good as an ole fashioned muley hunt. Good luck this Fall to everyone.

I did not draw the general license I applied for or the second choice cow tag. I have drawn one time in 4 tries. And the year I had a license I never saw an elk. I usually see elk while deer hunting

It's been 21 years now without drawing a Wyo elk tag for me! I've been applying for units with 5 to 15% draw odds for all these years. When I moved from Wyo my draw luck seemed to move on as well! All you guys that don't draw tags need to lobby the WG&F for a pref pt system for elk, deer, and antelope. Some guys seem to pull tags the first year they apply while others wait years and years without drawing. It would be great if the guys that apply the longest had the best chance to draw a tag!

Jim,

I have not heard from you in awhile, didn't draw out for wyoming elk again this year. You told me before what units you have been putting in for, write me a email to my hotmail account and let me know. I heard that as of 06' the wyoming elk draw would have a preference point system for non=residents. i don't know if that is true or not!

Been shedhunting this year yet down in colorado?

It is in the works, but has not been implemented as a done deal. I believe the proposed modifications to Chapter 44 (license regulation) go to the WY G&F Commission in July. If approved, nonresident (and possibly resident) preference points would begin with '06 applications for deer, elk and antelope. It couldn't hurt to write letters of support to WGFD wildlife division in Cheyenne, as the Commission will almost certainly want to know what nonresident hunters feel about the proposed change. I'm in favor!

Former Casper district biologist, now nonresident, who didn't draw 2005 elk either!

I am born, breed, and raised wyoming but the elk draw is getting ridiculous in my opinion. Some people can draw the same area year in and year out while folks like me couldn't draw an elk tag to save my a@#!!!!! Drew a ferris mountain bull tag about seven years ago and have been unsuccessful with this area ever since. would give anything to hunt this unit once more. the draw odds are not good even for a resident. (2004 demands said about 9.5%) I would love to see wyoming implement some sort of preference point system at least on elk and deer. antelope there is still a pretty good odd of drawings just have to adjust where you apply each year. wyoming has got trophy antelope on every unit you just have to find them. so i am not real picky about where i apply for goats. I have however, tried writing letters and making phone call every year after the draw results send me back my money. usually piss&^ off with them but every year i have contacted someone to voice my opinion. hopefully they have gotten a clue and will do something about it. I like my game and fish department and they do excellent work. last year during the massive elk die-off outside my hometown of rawlins the game and fish did a good job at finding answers but there are still some issues concerning the gfd that i feel could use some work and the issueing of limited quota licenses is one of those things.
