Bosque del Oro?

Are you talking about the Bosque del OSO in southern Colorado?

It should be there. Did you check page 20 of the Fishing regulation booklet? It has all the SWA's list in the back. It takes points to hunt all species listed (deer, bear, elk, turkey)there in case you are wondering.

I am seeking info for the area in Colorado. I couldn't find it in the NR regs. Specifically has anyone hunted the area, is it a good area and what type of terrain. Pinion, sage brush, dark timber. I think I've got 6 pp for elk and 7 for mule deer and was considering trying to burn them.

RE: Bosque del OSo?

Yes, 851 should get you there. Don't know for sure what type of terrain, although I seem to recall that it is mid elevation pinyon pine mostly.

I have heard good for elk, fair for deer, and good for bears. Check with the game wardens to see which seasons would be your best bet, then check the statistics and see how many points it takes.

There is NR regs? I thought one brochure covered them all. Did you find info on the Bosque in the fishing regulation booklet? In the March/April issue of 'Colorado Outdoors' on page 23 a resident needs 3 and a NR needs 4 points to draw this tag. Generally you need to add a point to those listed. On page 23 of the 2005 big game regs (for instance) under unit 851 rifle deer you only have one opportunity to hunt on the bosque. The best way to find out what points are needed is to look at the stats on CDOW's website. Jeff

RE: Bosque del OSo?

oh yes, All the terrain you listed is there plus oak. I shot a cow elk on the Tercio ranch (851) a month ago on a depradation tag. Seems like there would be great deer hunting given there are only 3 buck tags for the bosque. Jeff
