I agree the prices are pretty crazy this year. However, if the DOW has a program that donates tags to non-profits like RMEF (who do ALOT of good for elk), I guess I fail to see the controversy when a hunter steps up and buys one. The more money that organizations like RMEF can bring in from big tag auctions like this, the more that all involved will benefit. Also, considering the fact that UT gives such preference to residents in the draws, the odds of a non-resident drawing an elk tag like the Dutton is incredibly low. If a guy is willing to put up this kind of money in order to hunt a unit like the Dutton ... go for it!! I agree with NTHERUT that the monies need to be getting used properly. Fortunately, at least with this tag, I trust the RMEF will do the right thing. I disagree however that buying a conservation tag like this is somehow not "doing it all yourself" ... unless you have someone buy it for you, and most guys wouldn't argue with that!!
