Arizona Unit 22

I noticed on the AZGF website that this unit has a decent number of elk in it. It also said the the bull to cow ratio was pretty good. This unit is never mentioned as a good choice by anyone on this site. Does anyone have any experience in hunting this unit? I see that they have some late hunts that are new for this year and was wondering if these hunts would be worth while.

There are good elk in almost any unit in AZ.....22 is a tad different than some units in that the weather needs to help you out to push animals down a bit......22 is a huge unit that you just need to do a bit of research on, figure out draw percentages for non-res etc......and go for it.......Allen Taylor......

LAST EDITED ON May-06-05 AT 09:14PM (MST)[p]The unit can be fair to good depending on two key things.
1. Finding a bull that has all his points.
2. Finding a bull that 1 to 5 other hunters are not already thinking about.
I along with friends that live in payson have hunted this unit every Dec. for the past 10-12 years and just like the state population it is growing like wildfire. It is also a very physically demanding hunt, so bring the mules and a couple of oxygen tanks.

Plus the archery hunt is in Nov. The only rut hunt is the trophy hunts that only give out 30 tags each. I hunt unit 23 and that is the same. There are some good bulls but after the rut it is tough finding them.

There are no elk or deer in Arizona. Go to another state...there are a lot more animals and better hunting.
