WILL IT HAPPEN???

NOT TRYING TO STIR IT ANY HARDER THAN ITS BEEN STIRRED ALREADY!!!

JUST WONDERING WHAT YOUR THOUGHTS ARE???

IMO I BELIEVE THERES A COUPLE OF GOOD YEARS LEFT,AFTER THAT I'M QUITE CONCERNED!!!

A HAND FULL OF OPPORTUNISTS GET THEIR WAY BUT THE QUALITY TAKES A HELL OF A HIT DOWN THE ROAD IN A COUPLE OF YEARS!!!

I HOPE I'M WRONG BUT I'VE WITNESSED 'P' POOR MANAGEMENT BEFORE WITH MY OWN EYES & WOULD HATE TO SEE WHAT TOOK 15-20 YEARS TO ACCOMPLISH RUINED IN A COUPLE OF YEARS JUST DUE TO GREED!!!

THE ONLY bobcat WAITING FOR THAT ONCE IN A LIFETIME LE PERMIT,HOPEFULLY BEFORE THE UNITS BECOME RAGHORN UNITS!!!

I think this is it bess, I think this could be the last year if not next year that you are gonna see monster bulls taken all over utah. Utah's poor management is going to catch up and people are gonna realize that utah is screwing everything up and are just gonna stop when the decline of trophy bulls hits.

I've been hearing a lot of talk that the "Golden Age" of trophy bull elk in the west is nearly over.
Sad.

Oh no, here we go again, another whine! But I'll join this one.

Here on my reservation I believe we are going to experience the same thing you're concerned about. Our excellent lower elevation deer herds have been nearly wiped out from over harvesting. This was caused by wildfires decimating the lower elevation deer habitat. I know fires can be a beneficial thing, but when it takes out most of the hiding cover and wintering browse such as Junipers (cedars to some of you) and bitterbrush/and (or) sagebrush....where do the poor souls have to run and hide come hunting season?

Well getting back to the elk, the way I see it now that we don't have much for deer, a lot of emphasis is being placed on elk hunting. This is a bad choice because now our hard earned elk herds are taking the smack of the bullets in place of the lower deer numbers. I spend a lot of time out in the wilds (forestry proffession by trade)not to mention my hobby's (hunting/fishing/shed hunting) and I can already see the drop in quality of the elk (especially the bulls).

My theory is that if the deer herds aren't doing so great overall throughout the west (as reported). The emphasis on elk hunting has increased, to take up the slack so to speak, and in general I see the quality of elk declinging throughout the west.

YES! The quality will decline. This is a good thing.(Now you can jump on me). I believe that the changes instituted by the DWR will lower quality, but not drastically like many "Gloom and Doom" naysayers think. The opportunity provided outwieghs the minor loss in quality. We hash this out about once a month. So we all will have to wait and see what really happens.

(The real problem extends to the Convention Tags. The Convention will take away all tags gained by the age objective changes. The Convention tags do not use one's Bonus Points and there is NO waiting period. Thus the gain in opportunity is negated and does not curb the number of bonus point holders nor the current 40 year wait to draw)

It is over bess.

The days of 400 bulls being taken off of Utah LE units is over. Well, I still see big bulls until a real effort to meet age objectives is under way. The big push did not happen this year so maybe this year and next will produce big bulls. Time will surely tell.

Wolves, guys wanting 2 and 3 shots at LE bulls, and 14 year olds hunting LE units before they are 20 are going to ruin it. Our herd cannot afford opportunity no more than a wolf.

The only ktc still wondering what the difference is between wolves and opportunists?

Get ready to get called names and dragged through the mud bess. We are out numbered big time. Maybe a general Uintah tag and hunting harder will produce that elusive 350 bull.

Way to go bess. Just when I was swearing off this website you drag me back in!

"guys wanting 2 and 3 shots at LE bulls, 14 year olds hunting LE units before they are 20 are going to ruin it."

That doesn't make alot of sense. Do you have kids? Are you not going to allow them the opportunity to put in, because it ain't fair that you haven't got your tag yet. Are you going to stop putting in for Elk after you get your first tag? I bet you will be first in line to put in for another tag!

Will one of you define what you consider to be a "ruined" season for Utah's LE Units? How many 390 - 400 inch bulls do you want killed every year to meet your quota? There are so many huge elk in everyone of Utah's LE units that there will be trophy bulls for years to come.

Reaching 3-4 year old age objectives will ruin it. My opinion is based on age objectives and my experience of shooting 3-4 year old bulls. 390 bulls are the result of the older age bulls being shot.

There are huge elk and they are in units that are holding better than 6 year old elk on average which is almost all of them. Even if the objective was 4 years old the harvest has been older.

This topic gets everyone's panties wadded up their butts including mine. I knew I should have stayed out of this. Damn you bess!

---"Reaching 3-4 year old age objectives will ruin it. My opinion is based on age objectives and my experience of shooting 3-4 year old bulls."----

This statement is the problem with this discussion. Today the only 3-4 year old management units have been ALWAYS been managed as 3-4 year old units. So that arguement has no teeth. By the way, a 400+ bull came off a 3-4 year old unit last year.

The other units will be managed for 4-5 year old bulls and 6-7 year old bulls. There will still be 7+ year old bulls in all these units. Hunters will still shoot huge bulls in Utah, but they may be a little harder to come by. My 8 year old bull "only" scored 335, even though he had 10" broken off, so not all 7+ year old bulls score high.

I just want my boy (and KTC) to be able to draw a permit in his lifetime. I DO NOT want him to draw his tag before he is 30. He needs to cut his teeth on cows, spikes, and raggies. But, if the system doesn't change, he may never draw a LTD bull tag in Utah. (my boys are 6 and 4) I don't agree with giving the youth "Trophy" hunt preference.

KTC- I hope you and my Dad can draw in the next 1 or 2 years. Before you both are too old to be tied into the saddle.hahaha

ELK TAG ON THE BLACK MARKET,I'M OFFERING A NICE CHUNK OF CHANGE(LIFE SAVINGS TO BE EXACT!!!)I COULD FAKE THE IDENTITY & SWEAR UP & DOWN I SHOT THE TROPHY BULL ON THE UINTA MOUNTAIN RANGE,EVERYBODY WOULD BELIEVE ME RIGHT???

OK bess, I will get the party started. Whimp. Whiner. Greedy. Selfish. ;-) I have been gone. Watching flies land on a dog turd was more entertaining than MM. I come back and you draw me into this argument---again.;-) OK, maybe I started one or two.

It is not over bess. You may want to draw next year though. I am doing Oquirh Mountains or Diamond Mountain next year. I hear there are 400 bulls tied to trees in those areas. Don't tell anyone.

Find a name on the draw list where you would like to hunt bess. Steal his (or her) identity. Get a fake ID and license and you are set. Just change the physical description to fit yourself. Anything can be reproduced these days.

P.O.,
I hate to say it, but I FEEL too damn old for the saddle! In fact, if the hunt opened tomorrow I would be giving my tag back. I hope your dad and boys have better draw luck than I got cuz mine sucks.

I'm telling ya, the big money boys that buy conservation tags and the backscratchin good old boys aren't going to allow Utah to distroy the big bull factory.

As crazy as I think some of these guys are for dropping 30K on elk tags, I don't think they'll spend that kind of money for a 4 year old 330 bull. The big bulls and relatively easy hunts for them are BIG MONEY! And we all know that Utah is about the big money, conservation tags, and the like..........:)
