Well, I got lucky and drew this tag as a non-resident.
Never thought it would happen!!!!!!!

Anyone have any input re this hunt. I would like to make the best of it as I probably will never get it again. Will scout a few days in August or sept- I think.- that's when I have time off

Best of luck to you all.

Everyone's waiting for Cass to chime in... :)

Hunt the burns, thats where I've seen them round about that area while deer hunting. Sorry thats not much help. Good luck, theres been some monsters taken out of that area.

First I would get on the phone and call who ever is the Wildlife Biologist for that area. In Nevada they will help out loads. (Can't say much for Utah's biologists). Biologists in this state will almost tell you where to hunt. Next,I would call the Game Warden for that area. They will help out. Don't wait til the season starts, give them a call now! Make sure you have a map to look at since they will be telling you loads about different areas. 231 has allot of farming. Hunting anywhere near any of them would be advised. You'll have to get permission if you want to hunt on there properties. I know that northeast of Eagle res. is good. If you have time to scout the area you'll need to find water and maybe hang some tree stands or make some ground stands. I don't have my map available or I would tell you of a few. You did say you were archery hunting? It's different in the rifle season. There's allot of nice bulls up there. If you can scout before hand get a spotting scope and in the morning and evening scope out the burns. Theres allot of them. Good luck and have fun. Kerry

Thanks a bunch Mickeyelk-

I am a solo hunter and need any help with some starting points and habits of the elk that time of year. I will be heading out to scout- probably twice, then spend up to 10-12 days trying to harvest the best one I can.

I actually drew the rifle tag Nov 1.

***Another concern- are there any travl related hazards when it rains out there???-- knee deep mud etc...

Good luck, the elk in that area are tough to find, they move around a lot and water is in limited supplies. This year the areas in Nevada have recieved above average rainfall, and snow pack was higher this year than it has been for the past five to ten years! So that may produce some more watering sources, I would advise to scout that area pretty extensively, because the elk in that unit move long distances from day to day! Good luck and may the force be with you!

Great tag, ya otta be able to nab your self a toad if ya do some serious scouting.
I know of a few spots on 23 towards the western part of the unit where some narley ones hang. If ya need some help, im only 3 hours from there. Lemme know.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-18-05 AT 12:26PM (MST)[p] MARK,
MY WIFE AND I BOTH DREW 231 BULL TAGS(RIFLE).
I WILL BE SCOUTING THE AREA ALSO, AND HAVE A FEW CONTACTS FOR INFO. I HUNTED 231 2 YEARS AGO WITH A BUDDY WHO SCORED A 380 CLASS BULL (BOW). THAT WAS NEAR THE HERMITAGE BUT ALSO WAS BOW SEASON.
WILL TRADE INFO IF YOU LIKE.
THANKS
