The Biggest Bulls in Idaho

If you could hunt anywere at any time in Idaho for Bull Elk where would it be. What units do you think have the Biggest Bulls

I have shot one and seen several huge bulls come out of unit 36a-1 Castle Peak. I put in for that unit this year just like every other year I sure hope something good happens it is such a hard tag to draw last time I had a permit in that unit was 1986. Good luck to all

hh....i spent a week+ last year in unit 45. was during the rut. took several hundred up close pics of lots and lots of BIG bulls. if i would have had a tag, i would have settled for nothing less than a 360+ bull. there were others that were a lot bigger. i didn't have a tag, and this was a week before the season opened for those lucky FEW that did draw. i beleive there were only 20 tags available. i stayed for the first few days of the season, and watched one young fella shoot a spike. i talked to him, and he was happy as a clam. i helped out to youngsters (brothers) whom made up the out of state hunters in the draw, (10%).. they put in as partners...first elk for each fella, and they both bagged 330+ bulls. they each shot the first bull they laid eyes on....that area is a real eye-opener....think i'm going back this year, just to see'em again...i know nothing about the other areas, but 45 is a doozy....hope this helps.

54 is producing some big big bulls also. Its going to be a hard unit to draw to, word is getting out fast about it. On the other side of the state line, is where Doyle Moss has taken a few of the nice bulls he has guided. I've video some really nice bulls over there. The desert unit of 52A and 68 used to have some tremdous bulls out there, i have a friend that killed a bull that green scored 414. It was a big big bull. The wood river area produces alot of nice bulls, along with the units around preston. And the late migration hunts out of ashton are good ones too. Lots of good units that you could kill nice bulls in.

Unit 54 can produce some monster bulls but it is a zoo with all of the deer hunters and can be a very difficult hunt.

I'm not sure the unit but Pine Valley Ranch seems to have some huge bulls. (Menden)

I'm guessing your talking about Pine Valley Ranch that you saw on Keith Warren. If you didn't notice from how the bulls acted on the show and the hint that no tag is required, Pine Valley is a high fence operation.

Not sure of the unit, but have seen some big ones around Sheep Mt. north of Stanley.

I have hunted 49 for 15 years and seen some monster bulls just about every year while deer hunting. I would love to draw that unit for elk. I know where I would be opening morning!!!!

I grew up in Twin Falls unit 54 has some very good deer hunting. I have a good friend that drew this year for deer. They are really staring to get some of the Big Nevada Bulls in the area, just beyound the dead line ridge area is really good hunting. Twenty years ago you would be luck to see an elk in unit 54 now there almost common place.

I found out I just drew a 54 Muzz.bull tag. All I know is
it is a new hunt that runs from nov.1-30. I sent for it bcause
i had sent for a deer muzz.tag and it would have been at the same
time. I did not draw the deer tag but I did get the hard draw of
the 2. I thought I would ask if any one had any info on the hunt
and what they think the big bulls would be doing that time of the year. Any info would be great so I could get an idea of what I got myself in to.

PS there is only 10 tags and I can hunt several units inc. 55 and some others

Littlefoot, you responded to my general hunting forum for early unit 45 elk. I was lucky enough to draw the tag and would appreciate any info. I will be hunting in the unit for the entire time the tag is open. I would love to chat with you about the area.

Aaron I heard that you have a bull tag for unit 54. I had the rifle tag last year and may be of help. Send me a email and I would be glad to help point you in the right direction. Brady

Hi crazylegz I sent you a privte message. For some reason it would not let me e-mail you. Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I am very happy to find some one that has hunted it recently. My e-mail is [email protected]

I would say unit 44 has some monster bulls in it. Littlefoot has a ton of pictures of good bulls in unit 44. Only bad thing about unit 44 is there are over 1,000 doe and cow hunters in there at the same time as the bull elk hunters, makes the critters a little skittish.

These are a couple bulls we killed on a late hunt in Idaho last year. They ain't the biggest bulls, but still the big one is a solid 340. There were at least 4 bigger ones with him and the 60 cows they were running with. Hope you enjoy the pics.

WARM SPRINGS?

Those are some respectable bulls! I would love to hang my tag on that big one! Congrats.

Hornhound-

Good guess...but no its not. Its alot easier hunting than warm springs. My dad, uncle's and grandpa use to hunt Warm Springs back in the 70's. They shot 5 good bulls up there, and seen two more that come off of there that were absolute mosters. I'll have to see if I can get a picture of the one. We the hunters were bringing him out, a mule slipped with the horns and head and fell down, busting the skull plate. So they couldn't ever have him offically scored. But a ruff score, he scored 433. I'll try to get a picture of him. He was sold to a doctor in california for 25,000 bucks back in the eightys. But no these bulls come from Black Creek Canyon. Send me a pm, and i'll let you know the unit if you want. Thanks for the comments, thats me and my brother in the picture that looks down the canyon. I'm in the camo. I hit the bull once at 370 yards, and turned him back into the tumber, and he ran right into my brother. It took two more double lunch shots from a .300 RUM to bring him down. He was a monster. Probably close to 900 pounds.
