Just got back from scouting and couldn't believe what I heard...Bugling Bulls! I couldn't believe it....I got into a herd saw lots of cows, calves, spikes, rag horns, and heard a bull bugling in the group. Never did get to see him but he was screamin like it was September! Anybody else hearin Bulls?

Actually have been hearing them for months, I hear them all year long, They don't actually get it on like in the rut but they will sound off all year long on occasion, Especially the younger bulls, Right now the elk are not hard to find as they are very vocal and the calves are constantly talkin back and forth to momma, It's great to be in the woods though and hear all the chatter from them and a occasional bull sound off.

Tagline is right.

I've been out out five times this summer and have heard multiple bugles each time along with lots of cow and calf sounds. Elk are very social, vocal animals and talk all year round, especially when they aren't disturbed by people.

I was out last weekend around silverton colorado and we herd elk every morning. it was mostly two bulls talking back and forth but we never did get to see them it really surprised me to hear them that early

I REALLY envy you fellas who get to "run up into the high country" for a weekend and camp and scout out the bulls. That's quite a blessing to be able to experience living amongst 'em throughout the year.I reckon that's another reason that I cherish my time spent pursuing them in the high country and listening to their magical sounds so much in my short stay there with them. It's a continuous desire that burns in me year 'round down here to keep my anxiety at bay from having to wait from year to year to be able to be in among them again. You are truly blessed to be able to experience the high country all year long, don't ever take a moment of it for granted!Good Luck to all on their pursuit this season!!!
No Gut's...No Story!!!

Two weekends ago i got out and we got in the middle of the elk and kind of split them up and you could tell there was confusion and thats when i heard a few bulls but not like they are in september.

last weekend we we were up riding in the hills and got into a herd of about 30 head, cows, calfs, and small bulls. when my dad said that he kept hearing a bugle. i told him that he was crazy and that the bulls were not taking this early in the year. we sat there for about 15-20 min and then i heard a faint squeal, it was the bugle that my dad was talking about, guess that he wasn't so crazy afterall! and after hearing all of this maybe i am the one that is crazy? any how good stuff being in the hills this time of year

Yup.
I've been hiking into unit 52(NM) for the last three weekends. Spending the night wherever night finds me and hiking back out the next morning. Got into a herd of about 75 cow/calves with one little spike. I watched them all move across a meadow and up into a isolated group of trees. The spike was still the farthest one from the trees when I heard a great big bugle. I know they bugle year-round, but it was nice to hear. Didn't ever see the bull that sounded off. Last weekend I got down to this creek and and was standing there trying to catch my breath ( hence the name) and admiring some brook trout and looked over and saw a patch of reddish-brown behind a tree. Glassed and saw antlers. tries to get my pack off and camera out, but it spooked him. However, he ran out into plain view and stopped. Then another bull followed. And the five more. They all just stopped there on the hillside and looked at me before trotting off. needless to say, my camera stays in my hand now. ( the whole time ). Until it gets replaced by my lead-launcher. Great time of year to be up there in the high country. Still some snow in places and lots of green grass and wildflowers. Pretty nice to be relatively close. Wish gas was free though. Scouting costs alot more this year.
