New Mexico Unit 53?

[Mammoth]

A buddy drew a bow tag in 53. Anyone out there have any info on size quality, terrain, or genral info? Not looking for a honeyhole or such, just some first hand info would be nice.

mammoth, your buddy beter be in top shape,this unit is one of the toughest units to hunt in new mexico especially if he intends to be picky there are some awesome bulls in this unit. there are two wilderness areas to hunt latir and wheeler if he hunts in the wheeler you might try the east fork as this borders private land to the east. there is also low land to hunt and also an area that borders private land to the north and the valle vidal(once in a liftme hunt) also to the northeast. most of the hunts on private land that borders this unit charge 6,000- 10,000 for their hunts. hope this helps,nmbighorn

I drew a deer archery tag in Unit 53 and have spent 4 weekends in the unit scouting. All public land scouting. I have some info on elk (nothing big but lots of critters) if you or your buddy would care to call. I will share the info for like info in return for deer, so long as he agrees not to interfere with my hunting area during my hunt dates. I was there yesterday and heard some bulls talking already.
