heres the deal, dad and i drew elk and deer both in october. we hunt coues so a light bullet is all that is needed. he shoots a 7mm ultra mag with 140 accubonds for deer. my question is, should i try and not only find a good load for deer with the 140 accubonds, but also try to find say a 160 accubond or a 160 TSX for elk or should i just load the 140 accubonds for deer and elk? we are cow elk hunting so do not know where the range of shots are going to fall as we are new to this unit. i will be shooting my 30-06 with 180 accubonds(probably) or my 270 wsm with 140 accubonds but more than likely the 30-06.
thanks in advance!

Put it in the right spot and the 140 Accubond will work just fine for a cow. No need to change unless you just want to tinker.

see, the only thing i am worried about is catching one at close range. with that bullet going 3400fps, will it still perform like it shout at under 100? i relaly would like to get some 160 tsx or accubonds but A. takes time and B takes money!

At short range you should be able to take a precise shot. Even at that speed, put it in the ribs and it will flatten a cow elk. Just try to avoid the shoulder bone at short range. Even if you did clip some shoulder I still think the Accubond would get the job done. It's a very stout bullet, much tougher than most plastic tipped bullets. I have a .270 wsm and I shoot the 140 accubond. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to use it on a cow hunt.

Use the 140-gr. AccuBond for everything as I do with 30-06 180-gr. for deer and elk.
