5B South Archery Bull (AZ)

Good fortune has found me again!

Just returned from a scouting trip and am a little perplexed. There seems to be NO PLACE in the unit that is not within a stone's throw of a road or quad trail. The bad part about this is there are 350 cow elk tagholders joing the 150 of us that will be chasing bulls.

I believe there are good bulls in the unit but haven't bumped into them yet. Lot's of rain has made it difficult to get into some of the spots I want to check out. Read the G&F unit profile and hunted 5B North two years ago so I am not unfamiliar with the unit. (If you have a 5b north elk tag I would be happy to point you to a few choice spots)

This site was very good to me with advice when I drew a strip deer tag last year(many thanks to the Mule Deer Forum). Hoping for a few tips on this archery elk hunt.

Dave, have a cabin up there and watch the elk all the time. If you need any more help shoot me a e-mail. Check the pic on azod in hunting sec go to big game, go to page 6 bear and elk pics see if you like any of those elk.

much of the coconino is overun by quad trails. I wish they were
outlawed in the National Forest. (only allowed to be used to retrieve game) not to start a debate, but damn I hate those things. sounds like you have lots of help. I was up there last weekend, saw about 150 head, the week before not a single elk in the same two meadows. biggest bull smallish 5 point.
they dont make the pm thing in here vey obvious or I am just gettin blind in my old age, or I would pm you. good luck
buy a coconino map, outline your area and walk in between 2 roads after opening day those goof quad hunters will spook em to obvious areas..
