AZ unit 7E

I was fortunate to be drawn for bull elk in Arizona unit 7 east. As much as I love hunting elk, my boys havent been drawn even for deer in three years. So I'm signing over my deer tag and elk tag to them. My twelve year old is going deer hunting for the first time and, my thirteen year old is hunting elk for the first time. I have hunted elk in 7 West before but never in 7 East. Anyone have pointers for us as to where to begin our scouting? or where you have seen elk in this unit?
Thank You
Elwood

LAST EDITED ON Aug-18-05 AT 08:46AM (MST)[p]Very cool of you to sign your tags over to your boys Elwood.

Sorry, I can't help you with 7E. Just wanted to give you kudos for giving the kids a chance. I hope they have some luck!

S.

PS: My oldest (10 years old....) was drawn for both a junior cow elk hunt and a junior deer hunt. I'm actually looking more forward to his hunts this fall, than I am my own archery cow hunt. ;-) Have fun!

LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-05 AT 09:25PM (MST)[p]I sined my unit 34-b tag to my 10 year old last year. and he shot a white tail opening morning. Best feeling in the world. good job.I also drew the 7E bull tag. good luck and hope to se you there

Billygoat,
It's a funny coincidence that you mentioned your signing your whitetail tag over to your son for 34b because the tag that I signed over to my youngest is for whitetail 34b!

Then why have you not signed your bull tag over to your son? A horse of a differnet color maybe!

I signed my tag last year to my son . Becaus I shot a deer with my bow. never the less I gave him my tag. He killed a deer and that made me feel great. This year I HAVE A kIABAB tag and so dous my wife. And if I arrow a deer in september. He will get my tag.I put my son in for all big game tags frome the time he was of age. if he draws a tag then great if knot thers always next year.

How is that you killed a deer and then have a tag that is then null and void signed over to your son? Something don't seem right here!

Thats the way it works here in AZ.Read the rules find out whats aloud and whats isnt aloud. thats what the regs are for.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-22-05 AT 06:28PM (MST)[p]I never been wrong before and this is a 1st!

From Brian Wakeling-Big Game Supervisor
That is currently legal. But, if he harvests a deer during the January hunt, he cannot apply for the fall draw. On the other hand, if he applies, gets drawn, kills a deer on an archery hunt, then he can legally transfer the tag to his minor child or to a nonprofit organization that provides hunting opportunities to minors with life threatening medical conditions. He can do the same if he draws an elk tag and then harvests one through a population management hunt. One simply cannot apply for a permit after meeting the bag limit.
