LAST EDITED ON Sep-26-05 AT 05:05PM (MST)[p]A buddy of mine and I decided to take our 8 year old sons out to the elk viewing area in the Missouri River Breaks. It is a tradition to go watch the elk as they gather their harems and they bugle and fight. I had not been down there for years but decided my boy would like it. We packed up after work on Friday and left. We got there and set up my buddies camper.

The boys find the fire fun to play in of course.

Finally got to bed at 1:00 a.m. but couldn't sleep because of all the noise that the elk were making

Go up in th morning and here is the view from the door of the camper.

Nemont, Thanks for the pictures. I wanted to get the family out there to see the elk, but too much work and not enough play interfered. Maybe next year. The bulls sparring was awesome. mtmuley

Great pictures and I liked your story that went with them. Watching and listening to the elk in the rut is awesome, even more awesome to hunt them then. Maybe next year I will draw the breaks. Looks like you and the young-ins had a great time.

very cool!!!

I love when they are rutting so hard that all you hear is elk nonstop!

Where is that area, is it about straight south of Malta, maybe a little southwest? I'd like to go there sometime, being a flatlander, I haven't ever heard elk like that.

The area is an hours drive south of Malta.

Here are a few pics that I took the evening of the 23.

Some of the pictures lack quality, because I was hitting the digital zoom a little hard to bring them in close.

The bull with the cheater on his G4 seemed to like to perform for the camera.
