Utah Rut/Post Rut

I'm going to be hunting near Henefer in NE Utah from 10/8 through the 14th. I'm assuming the rut will be pretty much done. What suggestions do the experts here have for hunting post rut bulls? Will they still be hanging in the vicinity of cows or do they mostly seperate?

Thanks,

Jeff

From my experience the bigger bulls will be spent and by themselves. Either in bachelor groups or in pairs. The rags on the other hand stay with the cows quite longer.

I hunted during that same week last year and the bulls were still bugling. I've heard of a second and sometimes third rut when cows don't get impregnated.

My plan of action during the early rifle (post rut) hunts is to find a secluded area with good sign, that offers shelter, food, and water. That is where I would be if I were a tired ol big bull.

Are you hunting in the Henefer/Echo WMA unit?? Scouted in there several days and saw nothing. I have a Antlerless permit on a CWMU near there and went out on Saturday and saw several 300 bulls , but no cows in shooting range.
Thanks,
Kelly

You are so lucky, that is a great area..........the last two weekends, I have seen some large bulls in the back of pickup trucks coming down from Lost Creek. My best guess is that they will be in the thick cover especially when the shooting begins. They were still talking as of last Saturday. Good luck, on your hunt!
