You probably aren't going to see elk in 7e like you would in 1. Try north of the peaks. The further north you go the better glassing oppurtunities you will have.

There's a good number of cows out there, they're just harder to find. I've been going out there scouting for my 2 buddies late season bull hunts and the cows are out there, just look harder buddy and you'll be on em.

i went out this AM and saw a total of 7 elk, about 20 deer and 6 antelope. did do some hiking in some new areas that looked really nice. i have gotten a tip to sit in the burn areas as they feed down from there.

Take the road up to Lockett Meadow, and the 2nd to the last switch-back, you can glass a long ways from there.
Also, on the bottom of the 773 road, by Espil Ranch (spelling), there is a little hill where you can drive up on and glass from. Good place to glass also. (Hint - Stay up there on opening morning and hear the shots around, and see the elk run around!)
If you have someone to drive also, take the Lockett Meadow all the way up and have someone drop you off on top and walk the way down to the Shultz Pass Road.
Also, get off the Sunset Crater Rd. and take the first left on the gravel pit road. The cinder hills on the left hold some elk up there, especially the second one north.
Seen a nice 6-point with around 15 cows and calves in between the two cinder hills last week.
The cow hunt is a tough one. The cinder hills around and north of Indian Flats are pretty good, but you just have to be at the right place at the right time to see those on the sides of the hills. (Hint - Lot's of road hunters around there...)

Hooyah Bar!

I got mine on Friday afternoon, I had to miss opening morning due to physics exam but 3 hours later I got my cow. I saw ya on the way out there, sorry I didn't stop by to chat with you, was busy with getting to the spot and carrying my elk out.

Then was having some fun in lower country checking out some bulls, found this guy all alone, he's the biggest one in the area so the rut is pretty much done out there
