i got my elk yesterday morning at 7:00. he is a 6x6 that i will post pictures of as soon as the film is developed. we hiked for two days striaght without even seeing an elk. then it snowed close to five inches sunday night which allowed us to spot the elk much easier. as we were driving to a parking area to do some more walking my dad spotted a cow on a hillside. so we got out and planned a stalk. as we were making our way closer a bull stepped out 350 yards from us . he caught our wind and began gathering his cows and leaving. thats when my dad cow called and he stopped broadside 380 yards away. i got down into the prone position and aimed right above his shoulder. the bull then turned to go up the hill, my dad cow called again and he stopped so i let him have it. the bull then went about 15 yards and fell dead. it was a perfect heart shot with my .270 win that is sighted in at about 150 yards. i was shooting 150 gr. winchester super x bullets. and they did the job.
