Trying to start planning an elk hunt for 2006. I have four points and am a non resident. Curious if anybody had any pointers? I would be very happy with a nice five or six point bull! I also like to hunt glassing type country, ie., open parks. I've hear 48 may be worth checking out. Anybody have any other info? Thanks - Brian

Brian: Hunted 48 this year with a bow. Saw a few nice bulls, but nothing large. The best was a 5x5 that went around 300 BC. My son shot at a 5x6 but we didn't recover it. I called him in for a 30 yards shot. Arrow hit a limb but stuck in the elk in the upper 1/3 of the body. No blood to speak of but we followed tracks for about 1 1/2 miles. If I can draw it again I will try. I believe you may be able to get a tag with 4 bonus points with either a muzzleloader or 1st season rifle. Need to check if this is correct. I drew this tag 3 years ago with a muzzleloader with 4 bonus points. This area is quite hilly and rugged. If you have horses they will be appreciated.
