Nevada Department of Wildlife Game Wardens are asking for the public?s help in finding the person or persons responsible for the illegal taking of a mature bull elk in northern Elko County. The elk was found with its head missing near the headwaters of Indian Creek in the Bull Run Mountains in hunt management unit 062.

?It appears that whoever shot this animal may have been interrupted while attempting to salvage the meat and fled, leaving everything except the head,? said Game Warden Don Klebenow. ?We are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle in the area with elk antlers around October 8 or 9 to give us a call.?

Klebenow said that the animal was apparently shot during the muzzleloader season and that there was only one tag allocated for that season. Anyone with information about this or any other wildlife crime can call Operation Game Thief at 1800-992-3030. Callers can remain anonymous, and if the information given leads to an arrest and conviction the caller may receive a monetary reward.
