Did not score during early archery in Observatory this year, but I do enjoy scouting after the rifle boys have left. I saddled up and took a ride this morning. A skiff of snow was in the air, and I was hoping for a nice ride. Well, the weather must have them on the move. Observed three branched antlered bulls within the first 30 minutes of my ride, the largest being a 6 x 7. Very nice. Continued to a vantage point which I like and spotted a nice herd of 32 animals. They traveled within 50 yards of ol Tex and me. The herd held three spikes and three more nice bulls. Countless mulie does and two dandy 4 point bucks. Just a fabulous morning ride, a bit of a strong breeze, and Tex handled the trail just fine. Hope to do it again next Sunday. The heck with football season, scouting is on.

Does sound fun....are you gonna be up there for late Archery next week? Myself will probably head over for a coupla' days during Thanksgiving weekend.....and the next if need be. Got any pics?

I plan on hunting out of Liberty for the late season. I see plenty of critters just off of HWY 97 and Lion Gulch. I have yet to stick an Elk yet with a bow, but I have the bug. I also like to hunt out of Fourth Creek up the Teanaway as well. Above all else, I will be scouting as long as I can get there and the weather does not keep me out. As for photos, I have yet to advance quite that far. But that will change in the coming months.

I had the observotory archery tag as well. I know the aera well and had a real tough hunt.I did spend 3 days chasing a 380 class bull but could not get him....and I almost had a 320 bull befor a nice cougar got between us! could not get an arrow in him either, but he was sure nice to see at 38 yards.....Where abouts where you riding? I have been encourging the department to give out some late modern buck tags in the Manashtash. I bet a guy could get a really great buck in there during the rut.

Have they locked the gates into there yet, or are they still open? I was hoping for a good hike, but hate all of the traffic.

I live up by Observatory Road. If anyone is in the area feel free to conttact me

If you Kitt County fellas get a chance, get out and observe. It is totally enjoyable and no, the gates are not locked quite yet. As a rule of thumb, they close right after the first week-end of December. Lots of critters, but I do wish this fog would clear.

okhotnik, me and Boneaddict live pretty close to you, I live back by sheep company. How long have ya lived out there.

I have been in the valley since March 2000. Transplant from Montana. I commute the pass for work daily and really enjoy the area. It does remind me some of my home country. Way more Elk here, but not nearly the deer herds. Sure you know that. We are on the Westside area.
