OK, I can blame snowman. His thread is a good one on the deer forum. Lets do it for elk.

Sorry guys I did not draw as you all know all too well, so no pics here. Next year. I promise to return the favor.

I'm posting this here for neb of Bullhead City. This is a nice bull he bagged in Nevada's 231 last week after many years of piling up BP's. He dropped the bull with one shot at over 400 yards with a 200 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip fired from his .338 Win Mag.

Ahhh, fine bulls gentleman, I could look at these bulls everyday and not get bored!!
Another chance to post my bull from this year, taken with archery tackle 50 miles from where I grew up:

thanks brian,

i took this bull on the 4th day of a 5 day DIY hunt in new mexico. the rut was over so most of the bulls were silent except the younger ones still trying to gather cows. i hunted hard and saw many smaller bulls before finding this guy coming out of the timber to feed right at dark. he was with two other bulls. a 5x5 that would go 320" and a rag horn. i shot him at 258 yards while using a rock as a rest. i taped him at 358" as a 6x7 with 6 broken points. by the looks of his ivories (which were worn to the dentin) and body condition i would have to say he was at least 8 maybe 9 years old. A true monarch of the forest!

Awesome bulls! Hey Bullwidgeon, what is a "weenerbull" exactly? Is that an expression of some sort or is it like a weeny bull like a weener dog? haha! I'm not sure......looks like a good bull to me!

Great post KTC....Hope to see yours in 2006.

Here is a pic of my 2005 NM Rifle Bull. Scores around 357.

here is my rifle bull. what a freak! spotted him the day before the opener. started hiking about 0300 on the opener and shot him 13 minutes into the season. the debone and four mile pack-out was brutal, but worth it. it was great to have my elk overwith early so i could chase mule deer to my heart's content (which i did) :)

myclubbull2.jpg

this amazed me, but my dad found a shed off this bull's freaky right side a few days later. i'll hang the shed near the elk skull once the beetles are done cleaning it up for me.

congrats to all who posted, and to all with elk meat in the freezer!

Some really impressive bulls for sure taken this year so far.
Can't wait to see what all was taken once the dust settles.

Here is my Utah muzzle bull I took this year. I have to thank my good friend John Caruso aka "saxon" who helped me. We both had tags this year for the same LE unit, his was an archery tag and mine was a muzzle tag. I called his bull into him and he returned the favor by calling this bull into me. We had scouted the area for weeks and had seen some quality bulls. John took his 320 class bull about six miles from where I killed this bull. I had my sites set on one of the larger bulls we had seen earlier on his hunt. The opening morning I passed a bull that would score around 320-330 at about 20 yards. Then the rain came and it didn't stop for about six hours and the elk were quiet. Finally about 4pm the rain stopped and we headed out. We hadn't walked twenty minutes and suddenly we had bulls screaming from every direction. One of the bulls we'd found the day before was a big 360-370 herd bull with about 15 cows in the drainage next to the one we were looking into. So I knew a quality bull was in the area. We set up on top of a ridge just below the bull that was answering our cow calls and waited. The bull took his time but eventually was just below my position and was getting pretty worked up about this cow that kept calling to him. Finally I started to see about three cows feeding directly to me and could see some movement behind them. I soon realized that this could be the big herd bull we'd seen the day before and now my nerves were really getting the best of me. The cows continued to feed closer and closer and suddenly I could see the tips of the bulls antlers behind a large juniper tree about 60 yards away. At about 15 yards the lead cow caught my scent and bolted down the hill. Knowing that I was busted and that the bull was only about 60 yards away I stood up and waited for the bull to move from behind the tree. As I stood up I could see that the bull had a good back end and thought his fronts looked good to...I guess in my mind that's when I made the decision to shoot. The bull took a few quick steps forward and I let him have it. He took off down the hill he'd come from and cows bolted from every direction. As soon as John and I could talk John asked if he was a good bull and I told him that he looked huge. Although I thought he looked short on one side? We waited about a half an hour and started following his blood trail. We'd only gone about 40 yards when the blood trail dried up. Luckily with all the rain it was easy to follow his tracks. He only went about 100 yards farther. Unfortunately I didn't look this bull over totally before pulling the trigger, but I had a great time and have many lasting memories hunting with good friends. The bull scores 170 on his left side but didn't grow a second or third on his right. It looks like he must of injured his pedicle on his right side a few years back. A biologist told me that he had teeth of a ten year old bull. This is my third mature Utah bull in four years. In the picture you can see the shed I found near where we found the bull. I think my wife is about to leave me if I get another tag! I hope you enjoy the pics and the story. Later fstop

I haven't posted here in as few years, just live vicariously through the rest of you, but bagging my first Bull last week, and seeing this thread I just had to contribute.

I drew a Northern AZ late Bull tag and was lucky enough to stumble on this guy just before dark on day three. I was in the thick pines doing the up and down through the canyons and on my way out to a forest road to get picked up I found him browsing close to a little water hole.

I first spied him at about 80 yards with his back to me and lots of scrub/pines between us, while deciding if I should shoot that close to quiting time he turned 90 degrees and presented a perfect broadside. There was a little rise between us and everytime I went to my knees the rise blocked him completely, so I slow stepped to within 50 yards, he looked at me once and I froze, with the sun at my back and no wind I don't think he ever knew I was there. I fired one shot standing off-hand and the 180 grain NP never slowed down, he dropped in his tracks.

As he lay:

LAST EDITED ON Nov-30-05 AT 07:46AM (MST)[p]Some very fine bulls taken this year, but where are all the Colorado monsters?

Here is an Idaho Bull to throw into the mix..After three hours of tracking and cow calling I finally got him into the open......The hair on the back of my neck still stands up at the thought of this guy bugling at me from around 40 feet through the timber..

English professors call phrases like "Colorado monsters" an oxymoron. Just funnin' with ya Waygoner. Does anyone want to argue that we're not in the "good old days" of elk hunting? <<crickets>> Anyone???

Oxymoron? Isn't that the guy on the laundry detergent infomercials? You're right about Colorado bulls, I think you detected the sarcasm in my post. I'm going to get some t-shirts printed that say, "I hunted elk in Colorado and all I got was this lousy rag horn".

Here's a nice bull that was bagged by neb's daughter, Erica, in Arizona GMU 9 during the General Bull Hunt in late November.
