Just wondering if any of you guy's have either of these boots? Looks like my next choice for boots and i'd like to hear from someone who has put them to the test. If i'm not mistaken the Tibet is the same boot as the sheephunter, just a little shorter and more light weight.

I got the Tibet GTX this year and used them on a WY elk Hunt and a MT moose hunt. The moose hunt was in a lot of tough terrain. No problem for the GTX. They have a stiff sole that protects your foot and have good ankle support. There was virtually no break in time required as they were comfortable right out of the box. After a season of wear I would give them an A+. A big step above the Danner Grouse boots that I previously wore. I went with the Tibet over the Sheep Hunter because I generally hunt in the early seasons and don't need the insulation...or the extra weight.

Kicker-
I bought the Sheephunters back in August. They broke in real nice. I spent this fall hiking/hunting in the Snake and Salmon River breaks in Idaho and eastern Oregon, almost totally cross-country/side-hill kind of walking and I was impressed at how well they held up and how comfortable they were. The randing on them sure helps alot and they had good ankle support on the nasty sidehill stuff. So all I can say is so far, so good. Even though I've only had them for one season, I can already tell they are going to hold up alot better than the 1/2 dozen pairs of Danners I've gone through or the one pair of Meindls I've had.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-27-05 AT 06:56PM (MST)[p]I bought the Insulated Lowa GTX for late season Archery NOV 20-Dec 8 here in the Cascades of Washington. In a foot of snow they were FLAWLESS!!! I hiked in some of the STEEPEST terrain on the Planet and they worked FLAWLESS!!! I will buy the uninsulated GTX in 06!!! Good Luck

I bought a pair of Tibet over the sheephunter because my calves are to big and right out of the box no breakin at all, used them on a mt goat hunt in BC and have used them now for a few months guiding for deer and elk and still no blisters these are the best boots out there, they are well worth the money. just a note I ordered my pair a half size larger for wool socks so they would fit perfectly.

Can't buy either right now. Everyone is backordered.

Any suggestions?

Archer

Arch, I just ordered a pair of tibet gtx size 8.5 from Onlineshoes.com the order says they will shipin 2-3 working days so you might try there to see if they have your size

Good luck

Best boot I have ever owned. No break in required. Boot feels like it was designed for my foot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I ordered a pair in black and didn't like them. Stiff as a rock.

They no longer make the brown.

Archer

Thought about the Sheep Hunter but didn't want insulated boot.

Who else here has them?

Archer

A couple of folks here mentioned NO break in time. Just wondering if you purchased the sheep hunter in Nubuck leather (brown)? The Tibet is only made now in BLACK and it is pure leather and I can't see how these would not require break in. The are stiff as any shoe could be.

Just wondering,

Archer

Have a pair of sheep hunters in route to me. Have a few weeks to break them in. Several of you mentioned no break in time. What would you say is minimum?

Any help appreciated,

Archer

I put on my Sheep Hunters (Sepia is the color)and had planned on walking around the block to break them in. I made one pass around the block and they felt like slippers!!! The next day I hiked in with them!!! No break in time was required!!! I just ordered the tibets (yes they are back ordered at Schnees)but get on the list they should be in mid July!!! Good Luck

Thanks for the heads up. I ordered a pair of Tanarks to supplement my Tibets.

RR

To Everyone Who Bought The Tibets,

How do the sizes run? Schnees' website says that they run about a 1/2 size small...do you all agree with that?

Grizzly

Yes. Pay close attention to the sizing information provided by Schnees. I can't remember if they want you to order a size up or down but there instructions were correct. My Tibets were a greenish / brown color. No breakin issues at all.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-15-06 AT 09:08AM (MST)[p]I called Schnees for the Lowa Tibet GTX and the are backordered until at least the end of July. I did a Google search and found them at Shoebuy.com for $212.95, no tax and no freight charges! That is a silly low price compared to everything else I saw. Ordered a pair today for my upcoming Gila elk hunt. I can't wait.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-20-06 AT 09:29PM (MST)[p]Got a Shipping Notice E-Mail from Schnees today!!! The Tibets are on their way!!! Good Luck

LAST EDITED ON Jul-21-06 AT 11:29AM (MST)[p]I got mine yesterday and they fit great!!! (But I did ordr 1/2 size larger thatn I normally wear.)

They are a very stiff boot though. They have padding in all the right places and feel like they're almost broken it right out of the box. I am definately returning the Danner Hawks that I ordered. Too small, too narrow and a weird tongue that doesn't work right.

Now if I can just use them to get within shooting distance of a 350" bull in the Gila this fall...

Grizzly

Grizz,

I went to Shoebuy to get the same pair. They were sold out. I hope they get them back in stock at that price. Those will make some some good sheep boots for my Alaska hunt.

Falcon,

From what I saw I thought it was a great price. Everywhere else was $260 to $290 plus freight. I just ordered mine last week. When I did I noticed they were sold out on the smallest and largest sizes and had in stock the 8 though 11 I think. I just back from a fishing/golf trip last night and they were there waiting for me. I was wearing them around the house and I REALLY like them. My wife thinks they clash with my gray athletic shirts and tee shirt though. :) They are a little stiff but the steeper the terrain the stiffer the boot. I have a pair of Lowa low-cut hiking shoes that I bought years ago. They were a little stiff also, but I never got a blister from them and they last forever. I'm certain that they'll be perfect for my upcoming hunt.

Where, and when, are you hunting in Alaska? Dall Sheep?

Grizzly

Falcon,

P.S.-I did order 1/2 sizer larger, than I normally wear, and they fit perfect because of it.

GH:

I am booked with Max Schwab out of Talkeetna in 07. I chose the second hunt, which is around August 20th. I live in Washington, and this is my first sheep hunt, so I am pretty excited. After I get my boots, I will be pretty close to being done on gear issues. I will however need to keep working on getting into tip top shape for this hunt. I will take your advice on the boots and get them a 1/2 size bigger.

Thanks
