Colorado has formally put into place the 80/20 split

ON WHAT???? I HERE ALL UNITS THAT TAKE MORE THAN FIVE POINTS TO DRAW. THE BALANCE OF UNITS ARE 65/35 SPLIT. I THINK THIS IS STILL THE CASE. YD.

From what I understand Colorado voted 6 to 5 in favor of changing the license allocation to 65% Resident; 35% Non-Resident and in units that take 5 PP or more 80% Resident; 20% Non-Resident. Keep in mind that landowners get 15% of the tags off of the top and then Colorado splits the tags 65/35 and 80/20.
Example....100 tags for a certain unit...65/35 split
Landowners get 15
Residents get 55
Non-Residents get 30

I also heard that CO is going to raise the price on buying a bonus point. Anybody know about that? How much it will be?

I probably should have made my post more clear. Yes, to most everyone elses post concerning the resident/nonresident allocations 65/35 and 80/20. The reason for the post is, the allocation wasn't actually official until yesterdays vote. I think many emails and voices were heard against the allocation, but it passed anyway. Oh well, what do you do.

ToddT you should go with me to CO, elk hunt I am going for is still on the 35% cap, HUGE difference, you can hunt there 4 times as much as you can better units, just a thought.

Lemme know, wife is pregnant and due in June, no deer hunts for me, but 2 elk hunts most likely, first time going on 2 trips VERY excited!

Take care,

Don

Daxter,
I believe they will be $25, unless you purchased a hunting license in CO last year.

DonV,
Congrats on the addition. Our first is due first week of March.

BCHunter wrote. "McKinney, I thought it was 5 points or less is 65 - 35. Are you sure?"

BChunter, close, Less then 5 Points is 65/35.
5 Points and more is 80/20.

Resident/Nonresident License Allocation Policy Change:

? The Wildlife Commission, at their October meeting in Salida, adopted a new resident/nonresident allocation policy that will replace the 60:40 policy currently in place. The new policy is scheduled for implementation in 2006 and affects limited deer and elk licenses as follows:

o A 65:35 resident/nonresident allocation rate for male, either sex, and female deer and elk licenses obtained through the draw for Hunt Codes that have a three year average below 5 resident preference points.
o An 80:20 resident/nonresident allocation rate for Hunt Codes at that have a three year average of 5 resident preference points and above for male and either sex deer and elk
licenses.
o The ?cap? (35% of the general draw below 5 points and 20% of the general draw at 5 points and above) is applied on the nonresident side and for first choice draw licenses only. If sufficient resident demand exists they are guaranteed a minimum of 65% of general draw licenses below 5 points and 80% of general draw licenses at 5 points and above.
o The policy allows licenses to ?spill? in either direction if insufficient demand exists on either the part of residents or nonresidents. As is currently the case, this could
result in an increased allocation.

I feel like I just got screwed and no one bought me a drink, paid me or kissed me. This really sucks if you are a NR.

Did they also change the PP system so you only use the points you need for the tag? Example: if you have 6 points and apply for a tag that would only take 3 points, you only burn the 3 points? I was told by a game warden that this was on the table also.
