Thanks Rocky. I was hunting public land near Clark . I happened to see a large elk opening morning of the hunt but never did see what it was. A buddy and I came up with a plan for the next morning. Unfortunately, that plan didn't work out due to packing another friends elk out at 11:30 pm that night. We got a late start that morning and decided to try the plan on Monday, the third day. We were climbing in the dark when I found my trail marks from my bull from 2 years ago and I decided to stand on the spot he died and say a few kind words. That was my first elk and a very memorable one. My buddy had split up from me when we first started climbing about a mile earlier. I got to the sacred spot, said a prayer and happened to look up to see this nice 5X5. He was walking broadside at 80 yards above me in some timber. To my disbelief, I shot and he fell. I hit him a little high and broke his back. He got up and the second shot went through the boiler room. The bull turned and instead of falling ran directly at me. My last shot was fired at 10 yards when the elk finally fell and died 15 feet from me. The third shot was so fast I just took some fur off where he was originally hit. My buddy couldn't believe where this bull died. He was standing next to me for my first bull and knew exactly where he died. He isn't the biggest but he sure is awesome to me !

Much congrats!
Sounds like a heck of an exciting huint!
