We're going through the same crap here in NM . I spoke to a game warden who I've become good friends with down in the Corona(unit 38)area , and he's nailed a few poachers throughout the fall , in different countys . He had just returned from court where the judge basicly slapped the poacher on the hands , not even court costs , just the minimum poaching fee . He said he goes to court in mainly two counties , one the judge is a hunter himself and lays it down very hard on poachers , the other , well he simply wants to be a good guy in the community , nuff said .
Until our elected judges start to enforce the max penalties , these law breaking idiots will continue to kill our animals woth out much worry . Start giving max jail sentences , loose hunting rights for life , take property , vehicles , land etc , to pay back state , paste the sorry SOB picture all over , in magazines , news , sporting stores . And as usual , we need to do our part , report any and all suspisous acts , even if we're un certain , report , report report....NMHUNTNUTT

Hate to say it, but expect more of this kind of thing in these areas with all of the growth in the natural gas industry.
Wyoming recently had a similar article about mule deer poaching around the every growing gas and oil fields.

I agree. Penalties need to be severe. Criminals know what acts they can get away with, even when caught. Unfortunately, poaching is one of them.
