With any luck i hope to draw a Archery Elk tag in Arizona in the next couple of years ( 8 P.P. Non Res. )I am going to hire a guide and this will be my First and probably only fully guided hunt and i don't want to waste the points and money on a bad hunt.I have talked to Duwane in the past and have been impressed with what he has had to say and his success.Does anyone out there have any experience with him or heard anything good or bad? Has anyone hunted the unit he guides in Unit 1.The only other guide i have talked to is John McClendon any thoughts on him, i know he hunts units 8,9,10.One benifit going with Duwane is from what i understand i can get a 1x1 hunt for the same price as a 2x1 with John.Any info would help

Well all I can say is that you have picked 2 of the best that there are for Az. I do not think you could go wrong with either one. Get drawn, hire either one and you will have a GREAT hunt!

Both Guides kill some monster Bulls every year. I think it depends on which area you get drawn for. I would also look up Don Martin's outfit. I know he kills some great bulls as well

I've heard great things about John MCclendon, by watching all of the Awesome Bulls videos I can see why people usr him... If I had the money I'd use him, and Units 9 and 10 are great units.

I agree with caelkhunter

I belive Mr. Adams hunts most Az. units, not just unit 1. He has a very good reputation.

If I had the money and the tag, my first call would be to John McClendon & sons. I spent some time talking to them today at the RMEF convention in Reno. Very nice people, and humbel ( it's hard to be humbel when one of your hunter just took the new world record archery typical bull ) The mounted bull was hanging at their booth, talk about horn porn !
Check out the photos at their web sit.

I hunted with Duwane in 2003 in unit 1 for archery elk. If you chose him make sure you hunt with him as your guide. You'll do real well. I didn't have him so I did average. Also his hunts then were for the entire season, not 5 days for the same fee. If I get drawn this year for the Kaibab, Deer, I'll be calling him again.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Mickey are you saying Duwane's hunts are for 5 days now? I talked to him last year before the draws and they were for the season then.If he has gone to 5 days i think i would go with John McClendon. Also i think to have Duwane do the actual guiding for someone like me would be pretty hard. I'm sure everyone wants him to be there guide but he probably has repeat clients and personal friends who draw who he would guide first not to mention someone who came in and offered more money for him to personally guide them.Anyways i have to decide so i know which unit to put in for.More research thats half the fun anyway.

My father and I have both hunted with him on late season hunts and you couldn't ask for better service, every guide is working until all the hunters are sucessful. The hard part is going to be getting the area 1 archery tag. It took both my father and I 6 years to get drawn for a late season tag and I've been putting in for archery ever since with no luck.

Oilcan, I don't know how long his hunts are now. When I went they were for the season. They still can be. Repeat customers are hard expecially when talking about Arizona. If your the first to call after you get drawn then maybe you'll be the one. Good luck

Duwane's hunts are still for the whole season. Getting the tag will be your biggest hurdle.......LOL.......Both the outfitters you mentioned are great and will get you onto Elk. I think having the whole season helps versus just 5 - 7 days so you may really think about that. I know depending on the year, it can be real slow the first week. I have hunted for the past 5 seasons with Duwane and can tell you he really tries to make sure you get what you paid for. Hope you draw out................. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Both of the guides listed have great credentials. I know Duwane and I am sure you would have a great hunt with him as your guide. Good luck on drawing the tag. I am an AZ resident and have drawn 1 archery bull tag in my life.
