This weekend we went out scouting and came across about 100 head of elk, only 9 spikes rest cow calfs. They were out in a field and a large group was at one end and about 30 head across the fence at the other end we noticed one cow running around but more bouncing like a deer, she would run around the larger herd then when a cow would try and cross the fence she would run up and start biting it, hitting it with her hoofs ears pinned back and really carring on. Then when the cow or calf would finally get across the fence she would do the running, bouncing thing all over again until another cow attemped to cross. She did this for over an hour, her toung was sticking out. I thought maybe she was trying to take rank or something I don't know just wondered if anyone had ever seen such a thing.

Never seen anything like that with a cow doing it , I've seen a bull go nutts as the cows were trying to move , he'd do alot of the same things as you saw , bitting and hitting the cows pretty hard . Abusive sum buck !
I'd like to have seen what you saw , great experiance eh...NMHUNTNUTT

I had a cow respond this way to my presence once. I don't recall her sticking her toungue out at me though. Turns out her calf was hung up on the fence. It seemed as though she was trying to distract our attention from the calf. We started to approach the calf to help (were going to step down the fence), but the calf got free and off they went.
