I'M NEW TO MUZZELOADING AND AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD ELK LOAD FOR COLORADO ANY SUGESTIONS?

I have a T/C Omega. I use 405 grain powerbelts and 95 grains of 777. I am going to try out Black mag3 and American Pinoneer powder this year though. May use them if I can find an accurate load.

Don't fall into the trap that you need a magnum powder charge to get the job done on elk. My load is plenty good elk medicine out to 150 yards, much farther than I would shoot at an elk in Colorado with open sights.

Check out this website for figuring out "knockdown" of different loads. I use this for muzzleloading projectiles. Big slow bullets look bad with the standard foot lbs calculations, but millions of buffalo have fallen to big slow bullets.

I agree with the first post regarding the load. I use 110 of 777 and a 405 powerbelt. My bull dropped right where he was shot. I also shoot the omega. I would suggest starting at 90 and testing groups from 90 to 115 of 777 and see what your particular gun likes. I was able to get a 2.5" group at 75 yards with open sights. Frankly 80 yards or so is my limit with iron sights even though I know the gun can shoot much further. I would also much prefer a heavy bullet with a moderate load than a light weight bullet with a higher load.

Don't forget the length of the bullet can't be more than twice the diameter and no sabots allowed.
