What a great video. Looks like Team Mossback gets bigger and better every year. I'm impressed with the number of big tag hunters that pass on alot of nice bulls and never fill their tag. They have my respect. That Jacobsen bull is awesome. Has anyone else seen it?

It IS a GREAT video. It has a ton of hunts and your right, they sure passed on alot of good bulls. "Iverson" is just a MONSTER.

It is a great video and has some great hunts. They get bigger and better every year. You have to hand it to Team Mossback for another great year of Monster Bulls!

Why would you admire someone passing up on nice bulls and not even filling their tags. That is called sight seeing not hunting.

It is called hunting and not killing. Don't need to kill a elk to have fun. They might already have a big bull at home and are looking for something special.

Because these guys spend thousands and thousands on these hunts. They set a goal and stick with it. They don't settle for less.(I know I would) That takes some serious disipline. That is what I respect. They are not hunting for the meat. Some of the best hunts I've ever been on nobody killed anything. There's alot more to hunting than killing. Obviously a nice bull for me is not the same for them. What's wrong with that Ellensburg?

Doyles and John McClendon out of Az. are the very best elk hunting DVD's out there.

Overall/multiple species hunting ya gotta have those Never Enough DVD series right up in the top of the list.

Ellensburg,

Its called holding out for your goal. You cant kill a 200 inch deer if your not passing the 180 bucks. Ask anyone of the exceptional hunters on this site. I promise you they are passing on animals most people would be very very very happy with.

Looking forward to watching it. I need a good elk fix every now and then, and Doyle's elk DVDs are as good as they get.

It is not always about killing. A lot of these guys just want to hold out and take the best animal available, and are willing to go home without an animal if that is the case. If they don't succeed, they do it again next year. I know it would be different for anyone of us if we could afford to purchase a permit every year, but for the average joe, we want to be sure to harvest an animal on our "once in a lifetime" hunt. I know on my archery hunt, it started out as I had to kill a bull, but by the end of the hunt, and after all the neat experiences I had during the hunt, I got to the point that even if I didn't kill a bull, I had just enjoyed 3 of the most wonderful weeks of my life. I did get lucky and take a great bull the final evening of the hunt to fulfull the dream, but I'm glad I got to enjoy to time leading up to the kill. It is great to have my elk mount to enjoy, but the memories are still what keeps me going back.
I would still love chasing bulls even if I hadn't killed one...
I know Doyle's return hunters are there for the love of hunting elk, not for the thrill of having to kill something...
And you know the guides are there for the love of chasing elk, as they don't get to shoot a bull, and still work their butts off, making sure the others are successful.

Just got done watching gone wild 2. A little dissapointed, I had already seen about half of it on Trail of the Sportsman. I think all of the archery hunts were on Trail. It makes you wonder , can you kill a big bull without Advantage Max Open Country camo,a Mossback Shooting Tripod,a Christian Arms rifle, Leica optics, Wac'em broadheads or just a hat or orange vest without the Mossback logo. A DVD full of awesome Utah bulls and some talented and ambitious guides , I just wish the intense marketing was reserved for the free TV show not the video I bought.just my opinion.

Kinda sad deal to have all the advertiements....

I use to plan my thursday afternoons to get home and watch Trail of the Sportsman show but now it seems like they always have an editorial about how great the conservation tags are that they apparently buy for the show hunts........ discouraging to say the least, while we sit and wait years and years.... watching the Trail of the Sportsman show hunting lots of units all the time with the conservation tags.

I just enjoyed last years shows when they where with BTO alot.... Todd and Travis...

I haven't seen the video but I'm sure it's good. I am impressed with hunters that can pass on good bulls also. Hunting mostly over the counter public land elk, passing on any decent bull is hard for me to fathom. What spooks me is if one of these years I do draw a Utah or Arizona elk tag not taking the first 300" bull will be hard for me to do. I think for me to kill a 350"+ bull it had better be the first bull I have an opportunity at. I have considered if I do ever draw a premier tag of hiring a guide and tell him to do a cross body block on me if I try to shoot the first 6 point!

OoS,

No, no, no, no, no! I would suggest if you ever draw Utah of watching these videos because they are the bulls you can hunt. This is why I watch them. Look at any old 6 point then look at these. You will see what I mean. A little homework will save you some heartache later. I would find out what a 330 bull looks like and find something bigger. Muzz or bow might change that a bit, but not much.

KTC, I would hope I would pass on a 300' bull but I know myself too well and I have a feeling I would probably loose that arrow. I've killed a bull that went 333 in Idaho with my bow and have taken a handful of nice six points rifle and bow, I'm just not a good TROPHY hunter. I guess it's the meat hunter that rears up when I have a legal bull in front of me, that and the competition with other hunters I have always experienced on my over the counter hunts to let a bull go. I'm sure it's different on a premier tag. I've only got 3 elk points for Utah so I have alot of years before I need to worry about it too much.

I did not care to much for this video, granted there are some sweet bulls. The video is to commercialized, and the editing is not very good this time around. The best part of the video is the first when they show all the elk footage and the archery hunts, after that it is just the same over and over. There are enough hunts to make 3 videos and show some hunting footage and some of the other good times they had.The earlier mossback videos are better. The elk they kill are just awesome and it shows that Utah is not lacking for big bulls, if you put in a littls time and effort into your hunt the rewards can be great.
Just my thoughts,
Allen

LAST EDITED ON Apr-16-06 AT 09:57PM (MST)[p]A lot of those guys pass on nice bulls because they've already killed nice bulls. When you have significant wealth, you can afford to be a head hunter. I ran into a guy who was on a guided hunt in the Thorofare a few years ago who was from Lousiana. He advised he was headed to Colorado the week after that hunt and had a New Mexico hunt after that. He told me his family had an oil company down there. I can only imagine that he probably hunted like that every year. If so, how many 300 - 330 class bulls do you need on the wall.

i have to agree with foxfever. i dont think that bulls gone wild 2 is that great of a video. dont get me wrong they do have the best elk but i too agree that it seems like a long commercial. i would rather see more live footage of before the hunt scouting rather then the client being picked up a the airport. it seems like videos now are a kill shot contest. i dont need to see 27 kill shots. like i said id rather see more footage of pre and post season scouting. i also agree that the earlier videos are better. the way they are put together as well as less advertising. mossbacks deer videos are the same way. a couple great bucks and a lot of ok bucks just to up the kill shot count. maybe im the only one who thinks this but i dont think mossback puts out the best videos.

Some real hunting would be nice to watch. I agree videos are now becoming kill shot after kill shot. The best part of hunting is what happens before a kill shot. Lets see more of this in the future. Less advertising would also be nice. Didn't that used to take place in the credits. I think we all knew where the DVD came from when we bought it. You all need to watch Bearears Productions they've got some good stuff.

On a side note it sure would be nice to know the real story behind the Iverson Bull and what really happened. Some people might realize these glorified guides aren't all they seem to be. There are some guys in it for the love of hunting and not their name. Just my opinion. By the way Paul Pennie great mount job on the bull. You deserve a lot more recognition than your getting for this bull.

> Some people might
>realize these glorified guides aren't
>all they seem to be.
>There are some guys in
>it for the love of
>hunting and not their name.

That's funny! Obviously you don't know any guides. These guys love the outdoors more than anybody I know. They also scout a ton that they don't get paid for. They have spent countless days and hours doing what they love most before thay were guides. It's about hunting and not the money or glory. If your statement is true then explain why Mossback gets bigger and better every year. Because they love the thrill of hunting like the rest of us.

luvinhuntin,

I think that that is sad that you have to attack Team Mossback when you dont even know the guides. As peakfreak has stated, they really are extreme hunters. They are a very good bunch of guys. I only know a few of them, but let me say that they are top notch guys off of the mountain as well. They spend countless hours on the mountain doing what they love most, and that is definately hunting.
Lets make sure that we know someone first before we accuse them of something they are not.

As to the new movie, I really enjoyed it. Sure there are short hunts on it, but there are also long hunts as well. The last chapter of the movie even tells you that they are short hunts. The first 3/4 of the movie does show scouting, calling and sneaking on the animals. One of the archery hunts was one of my favorite hunts I have seen, it was intense when all the bulls were right in font of the hunter through the trees. I personally enjoyed it.

I think I didn't express my feelings or you misunderstood my statements about the guides. I have guided for years and understand the time and hours spent to find quality areas and animals. The problem I have is all the self promotion and credit going to the wrong people. Give the credit to your posse or the ones out finding these animals. Yes I do know how it works. The commercialization is garbage. I didn't mean to knock the video but save the promotions for the end.

I have experienced some crazy things from some the crew out trying to become part of the posse and so have people I know. I've seen some of the team and other outfitters in other units such as Elk Ridge trying to scare off hunters or claiming that this canyon or animal is theirs to hunt. All of us hunters have the same right to hunt these areas as their client does. These guys are spending thousands and are expecting results, they think they are owed the next 400 bull and the pressure is on. My suggestion don't forget you are guiding on public lands and yes the public is also out their chasing their dreams. Thats what frustrates me. I know Doyle isn't the one out there doing that but his guys are doing this and others so they can get credit for the next big one.

Really, I don't know why I care. I have drawn my tag and am done for say the next 20 years at least. Forget the hype and keep it fun thats why we do this hunting thing anyways.

If that is true that some people are scaring off hunters and misleading them, then something definately needs to be done about that. That is definately not right. I hope that if they here about it that they would discipline them. I would think that they discourage that practice. The guides that I personally know have helped people get elk. They told them where to look and go, and as a result saw some big animals. Needless to say, I was very impressed with them when I met them. I wasn't expecting them to be so helpful towards others. So I am sure that if there are some bad apples, then they are in the minority.

I'm sure Doyle would like to know the names of his guides that are bullying other hunters. He's pretty strict about obeying all the rules and respecting other peoples hunting rights. Mossback is under the microscope where ever they go and can't afford do something stupid like that.

I agree with peakfreak. I know quite a few of the guides and have never seen anything wrong they are doing. They all just love to hunt and guiding is something they can do without a permit in their hand. Doyle is a honest, level headed regular guy who has taken his dream and turned it into a great business, by hard work, dedication, and a sincere love for hunting. I think a lot of the "trash" you hear is from those who are jealous of his position now, and haven't had the backbone or the know how to take it on themselves. I also feel the videos get a little commercialized, but that helps pay the bills to have good sponsors, so be it.
I also know that Doyle talks with his hunters after their hunts and that any guides that do not live up to his or the hunters expectations, will no longer be part of his team. He tries to improve every year, and you have to hand it to him for that.
He must be doing something right to continue producing the caliber of bulls that they take.

Good comments by everyone,

I have never liked the Doyle Video's and I agree that kill shot after kill shot isn't a hunting video.Lots of the video's that i watch are of hunts I will never be able to afford so I want to see every aspect of the hunt.I used to love watching videos years ago that showed the pack string heading into the mountains, wall tent set ups and even what's frying for supper. These are the video's that get's my heart racing. To see 400 inch bulls killed one after another get's a little tiring for me.Doyle and his outfit are successful because they are good at what they do.I agree a 100% that you don't have to kill to have a succesful hunt. When I stand on a remote mountain top, under a sky filled with a thousand stars, under the strain of heavy pack,a dead animal is not going to change anything but make my smile even bigger.Do you guys ever wonder why when you pray to the hunting god that sometimes your prayers go unanswer'd.It's because the b**tard is to busy hunting himself to listen.

I had a Mt Dutton archery elk tag in 2005 and ran into Doyle and his guides alot. I put in over 28 days of scouting and hunting on this unit. Never once was I pressured or intimidated by Doyle or his guides during this hunt. They were always very freindly and courtious.

I saw Doyle and his team during the summer months and during the season in every area of this unit. Even in my honey holes that I thought were my own. But hey, it is public land.

They are by far the hardest working group of guide's that I have ever seen. Just watch the dirt roads for three trucks on each others bumpers and a 1/2 mile long dirt cloud behind them. That's them.

If I was going to pay for a guided hunt, Doyle's group is who I would go with.

Wouldnt you speak well of conservations tag's if it helped your business? I sure as heck would.

I just watched it. And I only have one word to describe it..."HORNOGRAPHY"! :) I thought it was pretty good. MONSTER bulls bigger then in my dreams. My major problem with it is I now look at my nice 6x6 I shot last fall with a big case or horn envy!

How does this video compare with their 1st release?

Grizly

Only saw three or four bulls over the 350 mark and a few smaller ones. Passed on a few 320 type bulls that I wish I had now taken.

Most of the elk were in the middle mountain elevation and very difficult to get to.

I was really dissapointed on the overall amount of animals I was not seeing....it was not for a lack of effort.

My buddies at work had tags for a lesser unit and were into allot of bulls every day. With shooting situations every day.

If I do it again with a bow, it will for sure be in a different unit.

Should be able to draw again in 2011 with my partner who will then have 13 points.

If anyone draws Dutton this year, get ahold of me and I will save you some time.

Alan

the best bucks come on the last evening of the last day.
the best bulls are the last bugle of the year.
don't wont to ruin a good year by filling my tag to early.
once i have a buck or bull picked out anyday is a good one but hope its not the first 10 days of bowseason then its to long of wait for next year. 16th of september seams to be my lucky day though as far as a bow go's
