Guys its been a while but none the less it feels good to be back. I am trying to plan an Idaho Elk hunt and maybe deer hunt as well. I will be having a couple of friends and my brother going with. Now where is a good place to go after a mature bull and what should I expect realistically of harvesting. I will more than likely be bow hunting so it will be mostly spot and stalk. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well, it kinda depends on what part of the state you want to hunt. I believe there are mature bulls in every unit in Idaho open to bowhunting. Some areas are better than others. What part of the state, what type of terrain, pressure, etc are all questions you need to answer, then look at units.

I am somewhat familiar with the southern/eastern Idaho units. Unit 76 has a great herd and big bulls but it can be tough finding a camping place as there is a ton of pressure during the bowhunt. The bannock zone has some great bulls and not as much pressure, but the herd is scattered and declining (intentionally). Island Park has great bulls but also lots of hunter pressure. (See what I mean, narrow down the area you want to hunt and PM me!)
