Will the spike in the gas prices keep you guys from pickin up sheds or goin to look for elk or deer this summer during scouting season?

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-06 AT 09:43PM (MST)[p] Just another Dollar deeper in debt..
So what...I'll go and do what I love to do and find a way to pay for it. I own two diesel trucks and that $3.00 a gallon really hurts when you figure they burn 150 to 200 gallons per day.
all a guy can do is just "get 'er done"!!

so far a round trip of 1800mi! to scout!
I would have to rent an small car to make that happen! todays gas $3.09 a gallon! Feds say it will come down as soon as these 7 refinerys come back on line over the next month!

I'm still going to go scout and have some fun. I might buy a small used car for everyday stuff and keep the truck for hunting , camping and taking the quads out.

I leave tomorrow for a three week and 5000 mile family vacation all over the west. It's going to suck when the gas bill comes.

I'm taking the boat to Canada this summer. At 10 gallons per hour average, (depending on wind/tide and swell) and at least 50 hours of run time, it is gonna suck! But, the kids and the fish are calling!

Those seven refineries are probably all the new ones they are building with their record profits. And as for the original question....NO! Might try a little car-pool action though.

Wrong. Do some research into it.

The current spike is due to the government dropping the MTBE additive from the current fuel, it has to be replaced with something and that currently is Ethanol. The problem with Ethanol is there isnt enough being produced to meet current requirements for gas production.

It doesnt matter how many refinerys come online there is still a bottleneck with the Ethanol and prices will continue to skyrocket. There can be no doubt not only will we surpass $3 a gal for reg fuel, but we are headed to $4 in the next year or so.

Sucks if you need to drive alot... its great for those who bought PEIX stock at the start of the year LOL

going scooter/moped shopping this weekend. will spend less than $5 a week for gas rather than $50. I think an elk will fit on one!!! Don't you?!!!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-21-06 AT 12:02PM (MST)[p]BUILD YOUR SELF A LITTLE TRAILER WITH BIKE TIRES.
Take along a fying pan, what you can't pack out, eat.
now you could also moped pool, movie dumb & dummer.
ring a bell?

I know this will sound crazy but I am beginning to think that the higher the price the better off we will be in the long run. It will force us to come up with a real alternative fuel source and then we will no longer be dependent on the foreign oil.

I sub contract and the gas prices suck. I just add extra on the bill and it makes up for it. Around hunting season better not get siding done around here.LOL
Wont stop me.

Asked my boss friday if they could put a hitching rail and water trough out in front of the prison so I could start riding my horse to work. I figure I could make it there in 2 hours at a good trot.

I just sold my V-10(8-9 mpg)2500 4x4 and bought a new 06' 4.7 litre, hoping for 20/22 hiway, 15/17city!(at lease double the V10 mpg)dodge reg cab 4x4 1500(and I can still run my LANCE 815 CAMPER!(air bags or over load? and these things called pods to cover the rear).

I was at the doctors office the other day and the gal on the phone was looking at buying a scooter or something which sounds real good. The only problem is this gal must weigh a good 325lbs+. that was a very scary image in my mind. bad dreams tht night.

THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN WATCHING THE SUN SET AFTER A GOOD DAY HUNTING OR FISHING.

Well for me it will make it hard. I have a 1000 mile drive one way to do my scouting and was hopeing to make three trips this summer to scout for elk. Now it looks like One trip for sure and hopefully can make two. You fellas that live within a few hundred miles have it made.

rackmaster...you might be upset with your gas mileage with the 4.7...the grand cherokees with that motor are getting 16-17 hwy probably with taller gears than what your pickup is running. the mds hemi is a bigger flop as far as there expected gas mileage...
about 1-2mpg higher than the 4.7 only on highway...city mpg really stinks.

I get 19.5 mpg highway in my '05 GMC Quadcab with the 5.3 engine. I get 16.4 mpg around city if I'm careful with it. Truck makes amazing horsepower in the high RPM's although gas suffers drastically when wide open... but its fun :)

3:55 GEARS and auto trans 202 mi(I-5 100mi EACH WAY)
avg 19.3 mpg @ 70 MPH and city just over 15.5!
Istalling tie downs for camper( O4'lance 815 @ 1600lbs)now,next over loader springs(super springs) or airbags(I can't decide yet leaning towards springs!). Hoping to at lease 8mpg with camper and crusing in trans in "haul or tow" mode!
anythings better than driving everyday @ 8/9 mpg at $3 a gallon plus!

I have increased my mileage by 25% so will keep doing what I generally do. Just get more miles per gallon so go further on each fill up.

Good luck with all the draws.

I have a Trailblazer EXT with mixed results. I can get 20+mpg on the highway (even got 19 mpg pulling a popup camper with favorable winds). In town, its down to 14 mpg -- no different than my Tahoe did. My next vehicle will probably be a flex fuel pickup. I realize E85 doesn't give you the mileage that regular gas does, but it seems to stay fairly cheap whenever gas prices spike. Anyone here running on E85?

RM-thats good to here...it is a dodge, right??
you are doing a lot better than my customers with their grand cherokees. it's amazing, as soon as the gas prices go up, everyone realizes they get bad gas mileage and complains to me about it.

I have a 99 F350 with a 7.3 diesel... I get 19.8 gal per mile. I still pay more for diesel then gas.

Has any one heard if Biodiesel is good for your Ford Diesel?

We are NOT letting the high price of fuel stop hunting travels, but rather putting money back into our pockets, by saving up to 25% or more at ANY Pump! ANY Fuel! (yes including diesel) Anywhere! Which also saves on the fuel supply for our children,
and thier children, etc. You can pm us to hear more about saving fuel money so these gas prices don't have to keep you from going on your hunting adventures...
