Book Cliffs roaded area help

So after 18 years of trying I finally pulled a Book Cliffs Bitter creek/South early Elk tag. Problem is I haven't been out there for probably 10 years or so. I just kept putting in for that area out of habit I guess (didn't think I would ever really draw one!). Anyway, I am not asking for gps coordinates or anything like that but I was hoping that maybe someone could point me in a general direction of areas that would be good to start in. I plan on spending some time in early August scouting but I really don't even know where to start.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Go to Ouray and head south. Pick a road and go down it until you find elk. There are about as many roads out there now as there are elk.

Seriously - start on Monument Ridge or up by P&R Springs. But stay south of there. The elk are pretty high early on so that's where you'll find them. There's going to be alot near CO (Rabbit Mt. area) too. Over by Wolf Den is always productive too.

18 years? Yikes. I got lucky and drew that tag my first try in 97. There are lots of 330 bulls. Tough to find one bigger.

Looks like water may be your biggest key to success this year. I was out there Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. A lot of the springs are drying up really quick. They didn't get the best of Snow this winter and not any rain to speak of lately.

Find consistent water sources and you will be in business.

Thanks for the help everyone. I appreciate it. A 330 bull sounds fine to me and a 340 or 350 would be great. I plan on spending the entire hunt out there and I will hopefully get out at least one weekend before then (probably late July). Although I would love to find the biggest bull out there I am really more about seeing some new country, seeing some critters, and having a good time chasing them around!

There are bigger bulls out there. Fstop shot one that would have gone into the 380's if its antler wasn't screwed up. Of course they all would go 380 if their antler wasn't screwed up or grew just a little bit more.
