Anybody out there hunt these areas during the week of Thanksgiving for Elk or Deer? Depends on the weather I suppose? What type of terrain can one expect? I normally hunt West of there but have opportunity to hunt some private land this year. Any information will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

Unless you end up in the Crazy Mountains, the country is hilly with yellow grass and grain fields. Very open country. Sagebrush in the undeveloped, dry country. More whitetails than mule deer. The whitetails can be small in size, unless you hunt where they can grow old, private land sounds promising. I always wanted to hunt in the country just below the main ridges and mountains of the Crazy range, but the majority of the land is checker-board ownership and leased to outfitters and private clubs. I've heard of some big mulies being killed in these areas. You should see a lot of deer. You might even kill one with your car before you get up in the hills. Many deer hang around the barrow pits by the blacktop roads, so be careful! The rut is going on during the time you mentioned. I hunted around Melville. Saw a black bear. Didn't see the big whitetail I was hoping for.
