Accubonds on Elk?

Have any of you guys used Nosler Accubond
bullets on Elk. I'm considering loading some
200 grainers in my .300 win mag, but am a little
leary if they will hold up.

I have the same bullets loaded up in my 300 Win (200 grain) and 338 Rum. (225 grain) They shoot better than any other bullet I have loaded up, and this includes, partitions, failsafes, X's (not triple shocks), A-frames, Scirroccos, and Hornadys. Unfornately, I have not taken any game with them yet. I have heard good things on this board and others. They expand more than the partition and don't retain quite as much mass, but I've heard penetration was satisfactory-to-good, and you do get the benefits of greater accuracy which is most imnportant in my book. I'm not so accuracy driven that i'll use a matchking, ballistic tip or even a gameking, but accuracy amongst the "tougher" bullets is very important to me.

The only thing that may pre-empt my using Accubonds on game this year is....obviously, - not getting a shot, or if I can get my hands on some Barnes MRX's for my 338 Rum for long range testing. I am interested to see how they perform. If the MRX's are what they are saying they are; well then they should be some very bad news on elk at close or longe range, the best of both worlds. However, until I get some to test...AND they perform better than the Accubonds in my 338 Rum, I will be using the Accubonds.

Yes.....used 160 grain Accubond out of 7 Rmag last fall on an elk. Was standing angling toward me at 250 yds and hit on the point of the shoulder and dropped him DEAD. Only kicked once or twice. Bullet exited in mddle of opposite ribs. Should get same performance as partitions. In my gun they are a little more accurate.

Listen to KILBUC, Accubonds are great all around big game takers. I also use the 7mm 160gr. accubonds and have taken a few elk with them kills them dead with no problems whatsoever!

Use the Accubonds. I've used them for the last four years on game from bears to antelope, in ranges from 40 to almost 700 yards. If they shoot well in your rifle your set. MR-X bullets may be hard to come by. If you don't find them in time to work up a load, the Accubond is a killer bullet. mtmuley

Have used a 200 gr Accubond from a 300WSM to take a bull. Recovered under the offside shoulder hide after a broadside (slight angle) lung shot, retained 63%, nice mushroom. Bull went ~50 yards. 125 yard shot.
Used 180 Accubond from 300 WinMag to take a cow through both lungs, bullet exited through the ribs, cow went 40 yards. 200 yard shot.

I shot a cow elk at 398yds, rangefound, with a 7mm rem mag with a 140gr ballistic tip...reload. The gun is a Christensen Arms and shoots .3 groups @100yds and has a 8.5 x 25 Leupold side focus scope on it that is dialed in to 700yds. It was standing broadside at a steep up angle. I was shooting off of shooting sticks and my buddy was ranging. It hit just behind the shoulder and she went down before the slight recoil subsided. All I remember is my buddy saying she's down at the pull of the trigger. Later we found a perfectly mushroomed bullet just under the skin on the off side. It's all in bullet placement! This year I am going to work on the accubond since I would like a little tougher bullet just in case of wind drift, but if it does not give me the accuracy, I will try the Barnes triple shock. If that does not work, I will stick with the ballistic tip. Love that scope and being able to dial in the MOA and just hold the crosshairs right on.
