Way to go Fred! Congratulations!

Nice goin there, Beanman! Congratulations on a nice buck! Just curious, but any chance that area is out there in Northwest Colorado? Those rocks look familiar for some reason..........

Kilowatt,

Thanks for posting for me, I'll learn that trick one of these days. The story is posted as 'Tagged Out' a few days ago in this forum.

Jerry,

We'll definately have to get together again sometime, I think I should buy this time though.

Freediver, the picture of me holding the head was taken by my Wife in our backyard in East Orchard Mesa, Palisade, CO. The highest point you can see is the Grand Mesa. Much of Western/Northwestern Colorado looks like that though.

Cheers,

BeanMan

Looks like I missed this one too. Thanks for bringing it back up BS.
Congrats on the buck Fred. That looks like some great country behind you.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-30-03 AT 01:47PM (MST)[p]Thanks again Guys,

It was bittersweet at best. I used a pile of preference points to draw Crazy French Ranching for wildlife. It really wasn't my first choice for a RFW property but I wanted to be sure I drew so I could move on.

There were a number of factors which made it a poor hunt. Mostly it was a bad choice by me, that is accumulating so many points. Water under the bridge. The Ranch policy wouldn't let me on the property before 0600 which was a little after first legal light, to get to where I wanted to start took another hour so I was forced to waste the best part of the day. And they don't let you scout in advance. It was 83 degrees on opening day and I didn't see a single buck. On the second day I saw one but it was really small. After 4 days of disapointment I decided what I wanted most was to tag out and get out.
so that was another mistake, not being committed to spending the whole time allotted for the hunt because I'm sure there was a better one out there. It was foggy the morning I shot my buck and I really thought it was much bigger when I pulled the trigger. Lots of ground shrinkage. To tell the truth I was pretty depressed about the whole thing for a couple of weeks. You'll notice the picture doesn't show a huge grin on my face. I had a European mount done by Daryl's in Grand Junction and it hangs in the garage. I see it when I get home at night and resolve to do a lot of things better in the future. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

Cheers,

BeanMan

Beanman,

You did good! You got to go hunting and you learned a lot and that's what it's all about. You're not the first person to spend a bunch a points on an RFW tag and end up without your dream animal. It happens a lot. I've done it and I've talked to a lot of other hunters that experienced the same thing. It's easy to get ones hopes up by looking at pictures of animals that have come off of those ranches during the paid hunts. Don't worry, time will heal and you'll be able to start going after tags with your first choice pick starting this April.

Congrats,
COBUK
