Hunting the New Year!

I have a couple questions for everyone:

1. What is your goal for deer hunting this year?

2. What size rack do you consider "BIG" "Giant" or "Monster"?

My goal is to take a buck in Idaho and Montana and I am going to try to kill something over 150 or so in each state. Mulies will be my number one target next year (elk have been for about 10 years straight now!)

I consider a 150-170ish buck "Big"
A 175-190ish is Giant and anything bigger is a MONSTER. If I was to see a buck that was upper B&C I would probably call him, "An Absolute Monster". :0) :0)

Happy New Year All! May we all be blessed with many large antlers this year!

What I hold out for this fall depends on what I see while scouting this summer and how feel about bagging a deer on that particular day. Considering I don't draw agian this year and end up hunting the general season, I don't think I would pass on a 170" buck and know I wouldn't pass on a 180" buck unless I have been watching a bigger one that I think I have a good chance at. If I am really in the mood to shoot something a 150" buck might get me to pull the trigger.

I consider 130" - 150" bucks decent, 150"-175" a good buck, 175" - 190" big and 190"+ monsters.

My goal this year depends a lot on the draw....

IF I draw LE Bull Elk my goal will be anything over 350. IF I draw this tag, I will focus my scouting primarily on elk this year, if I dont....

My focus will switch to deer. I hope to hunt in Utah and at least one other state this year. I am holding out for a buck that I would be willing to mount! ;)

I am also hoping to draw a turkey permit and possible hunt Antelope in Utah or Wyoming, and Bear in Idaho......

My standards are pretty high. I've been hunting a long time and have shot several good bucks, so I don't feel bad about passing them up. I'll only shoot a buck if he scores 180 or has mass and trash. I'll apply for at least 3-4 states and will hopefully hunt at least two. That's what I did this year, and still never took a shot.

Hornseeker I agree with you and I will be hunting all of them. I just love to hunt. I got four big bucks this year and next year maybe I get one a little bigger!

I'm starting to get a lot of bonus points in Nv.
should have a good shot at drawing deer, Antelope,
and Elk. I should be a shoe in for the deer and
antelope. I should find a couple deer in the 190+
range and will search long and hard for a 80+ goat,
these are my goals. If I don't draw deer In Nv. I will
head to Id. or Ut. for a meat hunt. Good Luck all.

Goal for hunting in 2004 is to be drawn again for mule deer.

Failing that, I will attempt archery season for mulies, they are relatively easy to hunt here if you know where to look. I hope to find something like this guy in the photo, there are some monsters out here in the high 180 and 190 range typical, and bigger in the non-typical.

I consider 170 bucks to be average for here, 180 are remarkable, and anything over 190 is just massive in the typical, non-typicals here usually gross over 200 mark

NIce Pic Phantom!

Will you apply for a special muley tag Brian or are you trying for Moose/sheep/goat?
