Soon to be Illegal Muzzleloaders?

I'm looking to purchase a Muzzleloader. I've heard that some states are moving to ban "modern" ML's. Making certain features illegal.

I don't want to purchase a gun I won't be allowed to use in the future. I live in CA, and may hunt other western states in years to come, but CA is my biggest concern.

Does anyone have any insight on this subject? I like the features of the inline, but should I choose a classic Hawken style instead?

Right now I'm looking at the CVA Firebolt. Accurate. Right price.
Also considering the Knight Wolverine II or Knight Bighorn Rifle. A little more expensive.

What do you think? What have you heard?

As always, thanks! Jesse.

Sounds like it's lucky your not ilegal in Ca. Hell if your not an ethnic minority in Ca aren't you illegal?
As for the Muzzleloaders I'd go with the inline it's the best you can get right now.

There has been talk of this for years. Nothing has happend yet, I don't beleive it will either.

Jesse,
I'm looking to sell my knight bighorn with thumbhole stock and a cabelas alaskan guide scope on top in .50 cal. It is in great condition. I would give you a great deal. Let me know if you are interested.

right now in Idaho they are taking surveys to try and make more inlines legal. As it stands they are not illegal, however you can not use a 209 primer or even a musket cap. your cap must be exposed to the elements. I do not see the 209 becoming legal in Idaho any time soon.

DO YOU KNOW IF THE 209 PRIMER IS LEGAL IN UTAH??? OR IF THERE ARE ANY REGULATIONS AT ALL ON PRIMERS. APPRECIATE ANY INFO THANKS

I think in Ut. the only reg. is a 1x scope and some bullet wt. requinements depending on if your hunting deer or elk.

In Washington it's no glass and exposed primer only.
It rain's some here on the west side too......
It can get interesting.

I have four smokepoles, three of the ones you mention. I am happy with all of them. The rear portion of the bolt (screw area) broke off the Bighorn but Knight replaced it. Other than that, no problems. Seems like states are getting more liberal with their muzzleloader laws but you never know about CA. Not sure how to read Arnold yet when it comes to our sport.

DryFly Elk: I sent you a Pm to answer, but since you haven't answered back...

Yes, I'd totally be interested in buying a used gun at the right price. I can't use the scope, though... in California they're not legal. Does it still have TruGlo open sights?

Send me a PM or email. [email protected]

Sincerely,

Jesse

I think you have to have exposed caps in Oregon as well which irritates me because I want to get a muzzleloader in the future I suppose I could just buy an old style muzzleloader but those in line ones are interesting.

Are you willing to sell the scope without the loader? if so let me know thanks.

In Oregon, inlines are still legal, but have restrictions. No fiber optics or scopes, must have exposed precussion caps, loose powder only(no pellets), no sabots and caliber restrictions depending on animal.
White muzzleloaders would be a good one to look into.

In California it's not legal to carry a center fire handgun as backup while hunting a Muzzleloader only hunt.

In San Diego, there are a few secret marijuana growers in the national forest. I'd hate to stumble onto someone "cultivating his land" and only have a single shot ML to back myself up.

Does anyone know if it's legal to carry a Blackpowder .44 Revolver while hunting?

Jesse
