What' better

I took a nice 26" 4x4 with deep forks and nice mass this year on the Book Cliffs. I shot him the second day as I did not have a lot of time to stay out there. Before we left, we did see a hunter that had shot a 5x4 in the same canyon where I had shot mine that had a 31" spread. It was definitely the biggest deer that we saw taken.

Last year, my brother drew a rifle tag for the same unit and took at 28-29" 4x4. His story and picture can be seen in the hunting stories forum on this site. The story is called "The Golden Ticket" if you want to check it out.

Both were good bucks but not "great bucks". Certainly not anything like those big Canadian hawgs you see on this site.

We did see bigger deer last year than this year though. Several in the 22"-25" range but not a lot bigger than that.

As to the Paunsagaunt, I couldn't give you much information on that unit but I have heard that it has been somewhat on the decline. I've seen some great bucks though taken from there. I'm sure you have as well.

Good Luck on whatever you decide to go with.

Depends on how much scouting your going to put in, if the answer is 2 + weekends, I'd say book cliffs, zero scouting = Pauns.
