I was just at Sportsmans here in boise today and one of the guys at the gun counter informed me that weatherby will no longer be making left-handed rifles, effective as of the 1st of this month....Have any of you heard one way or another on this?? I am very interested as I have been thinking about a 300 weatherby for quite a while. Any info would be great?

I agree with WA muleyHunter, I dont see how they could not make a left handed gun........I have shot Weatherby's for years.....and I wont change, I might look at the christ. arms....but that would only be to get a weatherby action and cart. for the graphite barrel they have....i would like to know how the 30-378 does with it......Dad loves his 30-378 AccruMark Weatherby....Dwayne

Dwayne, did you ever come out to yakima?? i lost that post or i would have given you my number. I totally agree with you on the Christ. Arms, i would love to have one of those, maybe once i get out of college i can afford one :).

It wouldn't suprise me... I've heard that Weatherby is having some financial trouble. I wouldn't be surprised if they start cutting other lines as well. Personally I don't think they are worth what you pay for. Sure they are nice but are they as nice as a custom gun that can be built for the same price? Not likely, and probably won't shoot as well either... Their ammo and brass is ridiculously expensive... I think Remington and their Ultramags and Winchester and the WSM have put a sizeable dent in Weatherbys market. You can now get the same or better performance for a lot less money.

Bambistew,

I tend to agree with you about the WSMs. I just got two of them after selling a SBGM.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-04 AT 09:10AM (MST)[p]Two reasons that are strictly personal... Recoil which contributed to an accuracy problem. I developed a flinch. In a hunting situation, this is not an issue. My groups at the range were not what I was used to shooting my 30-06. Another reason was the price of ammo. Fifty buck a box! Not really a problem if you reload.

Overall it is a nice rifle and I saved along time for it. That is probably why my expectations were so high. I had a Vanguard that I had a muzzlebreak put on that shot like a champ. Wish I would have kept it but I needed the money at the time. I wanted another .300 WBY so I saved for the SBGM.

Shoot it and decide for your self. It may be one of the best rifles you have ever owned. Let me know how it does, mine may have been unique.

Nope WamuleyHunter, I am leaving Tuesday.....the 20th...........I will be staying in yakima mostly..But I will be over in Seattle, Tacoma, Down in Portland, Or..and I am sure a few more places........I be out there till the 31st.......Dwayne

Cowboye, my experiance has been the opposite of yours with Weatherby, my 1st 300 ended up in a pawn shop, didn't learn my lesson & tried again in a 30-378, which was another P.O.S as far as shooting straight, till I put a Christensen's barrel on it, since then, it's been the first gun I reach for.
I'm not convinced they make an accurate off the shelf rifle.

that is one thing i would love to try and probably will in the near future.......the christensen barrel.......what was the conversion cost? PM me......Dwayne
