So we hashed out everyone's favorite elk caliber; what is everyone's favorite elk scope topped on that rifle?

Me: I have a 3x10x42 Swarovski and it's perfect. Not too big and bulky on my gun, lightweight, great magnification and clarity.

Love my Zeiss 3x9 42
slick...compact.....light....on the money every year...and has fallen down a couple of mountains w/ me.

Cheers, Roadtrip

Leupold 3.5x10x40 duplex.
I sure do like the looks of the new B&C reticles.

I really like the price, warranty, size and clarity of Leupold scopes, I'm just not crazy about the fine duplex reticle. I like a thicker reticle, but not the heavey duplex that Leupold offers.

Everyone has their own opinion and preference, but that is the main reason I like Zeiss and Swarovski better.

I'm a Leupold man myself. Every rifle I own has one on it. My 300 WM has a Leupold 4.5-14x50 on it with target tourets and customs reticles. I looked at the new VX7 at SCI this last week. It has a 52 mm objective on it and boy does it gather light. The only problem is that it's priced right up there with the Swarovski and Leica scopes at just over $1100.00. When you reach the upper end optics it boils right down to personal oppinion.

It's always an adventure!!!

My .338 is topped with a Leupold VX-III in 2.5-8. There might be better scopes for an elk rifle, but I think this one ranks right up there for an overall excellent scope.

Leupold vari-x III 4.5x14 40 mm A.O.Swarovski binos are quite awesome!I'd like to try a rifle scope!

Preferebly one that has the crosshairs about 6 inches behind the shoulder. But that one lately has been a Nikon Monarch.

Shortmag, I have a rifle set up the same way. 300 WSM, Burris 3x9 Fullfield II w/the ballistic reticle. Handy little gun in pinch.

happytohunt,

I have one on my whitetail rifle that I use in Michigan...and it's a great scope. I've seen scope reviews rate it as one of the best all around scopes that you can buy.

On my elk rig (.300 Winnie in Ruger)I have a Leupold 3.5-10x50mm Vari-X III. Personally if I were to buy a scope again for that gun I would NOT go with the 50mm. To darn big. More weight, higher mounting height and it won't fit in most scabbards.

Has anyone had any experience with a Swarovski Nova 3x10x42? I had one and sold it on ebay. I wasn't too impressed with it. I actually bought it off ebay, then when I wasn't impressed, I got to reading on the box and it said Nova instead of A-Line. What is this? Anyway, I sold it.

I know have a 4-14x40 Leupold VXIII that I love! Ultra clear and awesome magnification, at the same time, light, sleek, compact on top of my 300wsm.

I think the Nova was the older line, all 30 mm? I've never seen a 1". they look like nice scopes but the coatings on the newer Hibicht PH 30 mm's are a real improvement. I prefer the A line not only because of the price but they're so light and trim, I don't think you can buy a better scope.
