You should have a great chance if the odds are anything like last year.

Andy

Looks like the management hunts are going to pull a lot of interest.
How many others of you went in that direction?

I'm still waiting for my turn again....

If a lot of people move to the Management hunts, the main draw odds are going to be very interesting!!!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-07 AT 09:58AM (MST)[p]Antler,
I also think the management elk hunts could see large numbers of applicants trying for these permits this year.It will be very interesting to say the least on odds drawing one of these new hunts. You will see many with 8 pts and less trying to draw the new mangagement elk hunts. What do others think the odds will be like?Pahvant and Monroe will get hit hard that is my opinion.

Self 'an son put in fer early Manti, 2nd is early Wasatch.
Here's hope'n!
Bring on them big stinky buggers!!!

Dad has 12 points Dutton, rifle.......This year's wait will be tough knowing he has a decent chance of drawing. I have two points for mule deer.

BBB,

Do you really think your Dad has a decent chance? mrs ktc has 13 and I have doubts. I hope your Dad gets a bonus tag!

13 points will be hard to draw that tag this year. I think we will see a unit jumping party this year.It looks good from last year with only 2 with max applying but this year there might be 8 to 10 applicants with max.
I hate to say it but with only 12 points for a early any weapon dutton hunt not much of a chance at all.Hope I am wrong about the odds changing this year and your dad draws a tag right after mrs ktc gets hers.
Good luck

LAST EDITED ON Feb-17-07 AT 05:47PM (MST)[p]Myself, Monroe early 13 pts, The wife Monroe Muzz 7 pts, Daughter Monroe Muzz 1 pt.

BBB, Did you get the Monroe pics I emailed you.

Antler1,
I didn't get the pics. I would sure like to see them though. My email is [email protected] Thanks

There may be some unit jumping this year but if numbers of applicants are similar to last year my dad will stand a 30-40% chance of drawing....I call that pretty good odds. KTC, Your missy with 13 should draw this year. I can't imagine that many people with 13+ points saying "to hell with my favorite unit" at this point and going for Dutton. I'll let you know. Good luck everyone. I've been studying some early season muley hunts in Coorado and kinda hope he doesn't draw this year...I'd rather go kill a big buck anyway.(;

2006 Bonus point breakdown
Points APPS BONUS PERMITS BONUS ODDS REG PERMITS REG ODDS
13 2 2 100% 0 0
12 19 13 68.42% 0 5.09%
11 27 0 NA 2 4.7%
10 30 0 NA 0 4.31%
Last year your dad had 11 points out of 27 applicants 2 drew permits but did not draw any of the bonus permits. That was a 4.7% chance of drawing a tag.
Now 14 points will be max I would bet more than just 2 applicants apply after seeing this on huntodds lets say 3 with max apply.
I would bet that around 19 or 20 applied that will now have 13 points and around 25-27 will apply with 12 and so on.
Even if the odds will be about the same as last year everyone just moves up one step I am thinking if this happens your dad might have more like a 10% or less of a chance of drawing.
Unit jumpers will play a role but the odds will be close to the same as last year.
Like I said I hope I am wrong and nobody with max puts in and only 6 that were left in the 12 point lane now have 13 points and nobody else with 13 points put in very slim chance that will happen.I can see what you are seeing but you will see about the same if not more put in this year with 12 points.Ask the huntodds.com founder what he thinks this is just my opinion.I hope your dad does draw like I said good luck. This is only my opinion on what will happen not trying to say he cant draw I just dont think he would have a 40% chance is all.
I have been wrong before but this is just my thoughts on what might happen.I am in the same boat trying for a muzz tag with 10 points just hope that not many with 10 points or higher put in but I know they will so my odds might not be only slightly better than 2006 with 9 points everyone just bumps up a lane and odds just slightly get better unless you have max points or get lucky.

Me-- 2pts-- 3-Corners bow bull... go figure!
Kaiparowits Desert Ram--2 pts

The 'Warden'... Henry's Rifle buck..
3-Corners Rocky Ram... go figure! ha

3B,

I am not trying to spoil your excitement. Relatively speaking your Dad has a great chance. However, I tend to think pretty negatively about drawing Utah elk tags. My point is; I am very skeptical about mrs. ktc drawing at 13. I am giving it 50/50.

Good luck to your Pa! I hope you are right.

KTC
That was an awesome bull you killed last year, congrats!
Hope the misses has the same luck! Hope to see you
on the mountain this year!

I'm pessemistic at heart as well. I never claimed he had a great chance to draw, but at least he stands some sort of chance....better than what it has been in the last 12 years.hehe
I hope everyone shifted to the beaver this year.
Antler 1, Maybe send one photo at a time. I never got the pics again but have a huge memory in my account, I don't know what the deal is.

Come on Dutton!!!

My dad-Monroe early NR-8 points
My bro-Monroe muzzy NR-2 points

It would be nice if one of us draws a tag.As Jim Carrey says"so your saying theres a chance." Not getting my hopes up though.9 points here in Nevada.Hope to draw at least 1 elk tag this year and hope I don't draw both.Is that sick?

Me - 1st year of the 5 year plan
Wife - Dutton Rifle 6 points
Daughter - Monroe cull hunt 1 point

Not planning on hunting for ourselves in Utah much this year but counting on other states like Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho for some hill time.

It's always an adventure!!!

Thanks Ups-TinesUp? He should be all mounted up this week or next?:)

Hopefully I am down their with my wife or a good friend and we can meet up. I met your bro in 05?

Wasatch Elk Any Weapon
Resident w/ 11 points

I wonder how many tags they're going to put back into the early hunt with the big kabosh of the late hunt? Any rumors???

I'm still a year or two out of the bonus tags, but it's nice to know there's getting to be quite a few other tags I could likely draw.

I have 9 points and chose any weapon early season Phavant. I know its a long shot, but I have waited long enough to through the points away on a bad tag.
1shot1kill.

I put in for these:

WASATCH MOUNTAINS
BOOKCLIFFS,BITTERCRK

0 points - I think that ranks my chances of drawing at like .0000001, BUT, gotta start accumulating those points.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-20-07 AT 12:56PM (MST)[p]My father-in-law and I put in for elk points again as non-residents. This will be 9 for me and 8 for him. Good luck to all.

Would rather hunt the HC for big ole bucks so I put in for San Juan early with 8 points. I honestly hope I don't draw. There will be time enough for elk in the future.

Mike

Started over last year after the 5 year wait. Res Wasatch Elk any weapon 1 pt. If no one jumps from their ship to mine, I stand a good chance of drawing my Uintah's East Mt. Goat.

Smokepole

Bowhunt,
I think you stand a real good chance at drawing a permit for archery. You just never know what can happen with odds.I put in for that same hunt in 2005 with 8 points and did not draw, that is why it is not a good thing to think you have a 100% tag coming your way.Infact 8 applicants with 8 points in 2005 did not draw any of the archery dutton tags.
Go Figure

I think WARBIRDUM is going to have a meltdown between now and the end of April? I had one between April of 05 and April of 06 so it is easy to do. Anyone ever sued the DWR over mental anguish?

Thanks for the encouragement. It is fun playing the Elk Lottery. Hopefully everyone will do just what they did last year.

I hope everyone stayed with the same units they applied for in 2006 also bowhunt if they did you will be hunting in 2007.Yes ktc I am a little nervous this year and for good reason I want out.I bet you have 0 pressure this year you dont have to worry about drawing a elk tag in Utah ever again and you will have a great big bull to look at soon, sounds like your bull is about finished.
