There is a reason that 4,681 people applied for the unit last season and they handed out 1277 tags. There's a lot of deer there. I hunted it with my Father-in-law two years ago and he missed a 170+ class buck. We saw deer every day, the big ones are there you just have to look a little deeper. There has been a lot of success in that unit over the last 3-5 years and I wouldn't think twice about using three points for it. I'm not sure what the numbers will be like this year but if you don't apply that will mean my chances go up! LOL

Hawkk33-Yeah! That's right I'm a Yahoo from the West Side!

I grew up hunting this area and it won't bother me to never return. Since the burn it's caused an absolute slaughter on the buck population. For the first couple of years it opened up areas for the lazy roadhunters to get to areas normally they'd have to walk into. The bucks were nailed by the dozens and it still sounds like a war come opening morning, however way more than the majority killed are forks and dinky 3 pts. A good friend of mine who's OSP was working the silvies this year during the season. He checked over 400 bucks and none were over 24", and only a handfull of 4 pts. Very Very sad compared to what this unit once was. Four years ago I picked over 12 bucks (very small) before I found a shooter but I traveled to pretty extreme places to find him. I have pictures of a single days hunt where we killed 7 bucks out of one canyon, the smallest was a 4x3 that was 28 wide. A whopper will always come out once in a while, but there are definitely better units currently.

This unit has so many deer that it's ridiculous. But as previously stated most of the bucks are young and are shot out of the burn. If you hunt there I would go into the low junipers or as high as you can and really get after it. If there are that many deer in one unit then there are definetly some big bucks.....you'll just have to do some work and passing up in order to kill one.
