Does anyone know if the Colorado Mule Deer Association is still active in Colorado? I joined two years ago and attended this years banquet in Grand Junction. It seemed like I at least got a newsletter from them the first year. They also had, in previous years, work days where you could go and help improve habitat locally. Is any of this stuff still happening and how can I get involved if it is?

I met TheKnack at that banquet and also BUCKSPY was A committee member. Have you gotten any newletter/info stuff? Is it still solvent?

Thanks,

BeanMan

Hello Fred,
Contact Colby Olford at [email protected] and ask him.

I currently am a Mule Deer Foundation member as well and am going to a local chapter banquet next week.
Have not really heard too much from CMDA either.
The website they have still has last years information on it so maybe something happened?
Best,
Jerry
P.S. It was great meeting you last year Fred. Your a great guy.

I too am a little curious about the CMDA, so hopefully someone will post something (who knows)

Speaking of the MDF, seems a shame that not even a 1/4th of the deer hunters in Colorado belong to it. :(

COhunter-

Yes, we are always fighting apathy in Colorado on MDF membership and support. Many CO folks are very active and many others donate regularly to the cause, but compared to other states like WY and UT it's been tough. We're trying to turn this around before it's too late.

We are gaining some momentum lately, as habitat loss and CWD are waking up some folks. Next week the N Front Range Chapter MDF is having its banquet in Milliken, and it's going to be bigger and better than last year...let me know if you need more info. Jerry- is this the one you are attending? I hope so...we need to meet in person.

I'd love to attend the Northern Front Range Dinner, but I'm on the Pike's Peak Chapter Commitee and spending all my spare change there (still goes to the same place in the long run):)

Good luck with your Banquet !!! Hope you guys rake it in :)

Pike's Peak Chapter:
Its April 3rd at the Double Tree World Arena for you guys in the Springs area

The Colorado Mule Deer Association is still active and having a banquet/fundraiser March 13th at 2 Rivers Convention Center in Grand Junction on March 13th. Tickets can be had from Colby Olford at (970) 487-3435. I believe also can be bought from Jerry's Sporting Goods in Grand Junction and Brumfield's Taxidermy in Clifton and Darryls Taxidermy in Junction. I am pretty sure the Rifle Chapter had a banquet last weekend.

I was on the banquet commitee last year and state board but I got booted off the state board from my "volunteer" position for schedule conflicts and I missed two or three meetings that year all of which were a 3 to 6 hour drive from my house. I guess you had better watch your a$$ when you volunteer with the current director.

For those of you who did not get much as far as communication from the organization in the form of newsletters or otherwise, are curious about the website, and maybe want to voice your opinion on the level of communication within the organization, you can email the current director Denny Behrens at [email protected] and the Grand Junction chapter President Colby Olford at [email protected]

All that being said, I am still a member and support the CMDA and plan on attending and donating to the CMDA again this year and urge all of you who are passionate about mule deer to be a member of both the CMDA and the MDF in Colorado.

I called and talked to Colby Olford on Friday morning. It seems there were some foul ups with mailing lists etc. The upshot is I volunteered to help with the banquet here in Grand Junction so I hope to see some of you guys there on March 13.

BeanMan,
That's great that you volunteered. I was thinking of attending this year so I would be interested in details such as prices. Also I think last year they had a display of local bucks taken. What is required to get entered?

Kraig,

I'll know more after Tuesday evening when I attend one the pre banquet meetings. I'll let you know.
