Can anyone give any good insight to any good units to put in for in colorado? I have 10 points for deer. I would like to use them for a unit that would pay off if the work and time was put in! Thanks for any help!

Do you have any ideas? Any starting points? Are you able to hunt above 11,000' in elevation? Are you looking for a DIY?
Do you want to hunt out West or the Eastern Plains? Are you a non-resident? Are you able to scout? What kind of buck are you realistically hoping to kill? What kind of physical condition are you in? Do you place much stock into the patented answers the local DOW employees will give you when questioned? Have you taken other mature mule deer? Can you tell the difference between a 170 and a 185 buck that is hauling tail and going away at 75 yards?

Unfortunately there isn't a single unit in Colorado that would reflect the kind of quality you would expect for saving a decades worth of points.

We can simplify it one step further. Do you want to hike around for countles hours and glass until your eyes bleed, or do you want to ride the roads in a old army jeep until soemthing is jumped. Are you looking for a typical or non-typical. Are you willing to go home with nothing and burn up all those points??

Gosh, it would be fun to have all those points, I would probably sack up and get some access in the eastern part of the state. Some fine bucks out in the CRP.

You might consider an early high country (timberline) hunt if you can backpack it. Can't beat the scenry and some big bucks hang out up there.

Deerking is the guy to talk to if you decide to go that route. He has a business that scouts out places for you to hunt, and you can bet there are some big ones there. He helped me get a 29" 8x7 last year.

venor, ergo sum (I hunt, therefore I am)

Just FYI, Deerking officially changed his name to El Jefe yesterday. He'll be posting the picture of himself with sombrero shortly.

That is all.

I thought he changed it to J-Sista and was hired on to sing in the "Village People" reunion tour

He might not have time for his business anymore ;-)

gentleman,
thanks for the info,
when i frist started to put in for co. I wanted to hunt unit 10
but i have some ggod source that have said it has declined in age class. My brothewr hunted unit 21 a year ago. had agood hunt and killed a 170 buck his last. seen some better bucks but no chances to kill. Yes i would have time to scout I am not going to waste a good hunt! I have looked in to some of the hunt for the high country hunts there is some units 45,44,444
that i have heard some mixed reports about? I also talk to somebody about 74 early season. Yes I can can hold my own on feild judging a buck. I work for a outfitter in utah guiding a few hunts the most ground srinkage i had las year was 3 points
of 4 deer I seen go down maybe I just got lucky. they were deer from 182 to 217. elk are my week point. Yes I have killed some good deer in 97 I shot a 198 2/8 buck when I shot him he was #3 in the state of utah #4 in the world with a muzzleloader, in 98 I took a 32 in 185 buck in the same area. This area I should add is on public ground and is general area . I have taken a handful 165-180 bucks. I kill more coyotes than most people see.
So I would greatly appericate any info or even a place to start.
thanks
